However Speakeasy says i have 1.2 megs download.

Eh? It's only about 7.84 MB/sec down. The upload is quite impressive however. I wish RIT didn't cap ours at 100 Kbps. Actually, it's 100 Kbps per connection, not total, so you can still run a wicked fast server.

My home connection is much less impressive than the university one. However, I'm stuck with Verizon DSL for the forseeable future. It's still better than dial-up, though, but that's not saying much.

RE: The university connection, I only have access to that in a computer lab on campus, and only because I brought my own ethernet cable to use with my laptop. Students are normally supposed to use the terrible school wifi that is slow, replete with bad signal strength unless you are literally on top of the hot spot, and even has numerous dead zones.

The staff (naturally) has a WPA-secured wifi that always has 4 bars no matter where you are on campus. :mad:
