Anyhoo apparently they searched for keywords that matched some of their copyrights and sent takedown notices for every one of the results, whether it was actually related or not.

Youtube complied, taking down stuff that had nothing to do with Viacom like user-recorded footage from videogames and the like.

Wonder if youtube would have complied before it was bought by Google.

It does seem like this is happening a lot more now that Google is running things. It's not really surprising though.
