Question about Ram
2004-07-13, 7:39 PM #1
I have an older motherboard (Asus A7V) which supports 266mhz DDR ram (currently 128mb installed), which is apparently not for sale any more. Is there any setting that will allow my motherboard to accept higher mhz ram?

Uh... 266mhz ram is PC2100, which is still very for sale to my knowledge.

All right then. Does anybody that's not an online store carry this?

I think the motherboard's mhz rating is the limit, not the ram card's rating. Like if you add a ram card that's rated at 300 MHz, it would never run over the 266 MHz your motherboard runs at.
I'm not quite sure about that, though.

Yeah. In fact it's really cheap. I think like 100 for 512, and like 160 for a gig of regular RAM.

Okay, next wuestion: Did ATI decide to stop supporting WinME? There are 4.7 drivers available for XP and 2000, but only 4.3 for ME.

Dude, EVERYBODY stopped supporting Windows ME. If your using it, I seriously suggest you "upgrade" to something less sucky.

In some cases the 2000/XP drivers will work in ME, since ME supports WDM drivers. Probably won't though. And as for the RAM, newer DDR will work just fine, I'd suggest getting that if you are planning on upgrading any time soon.

that's accurate. I have personal experience in that matter.
