Sound problem in Vista...
2007-02-07, 9:52 PM #1
After getting Vista Ultimate installed, I find out that I have no sound except from my headphone jack. Since the sound is onboard, I updated the drivers for my motherboard (nForce 570 SLIT-A) and rechecked everything in the BIOS to make sure it was all set up right. I looked through the manual for my motherboard and didn't find anything on the audio. I have run out of ideas as to what is causing there to be no sound.

It did work when I used a linux live cd, so I'm pretty sure its not the motherboard.

Has anyone else run into this and how can I fix it?

I'll get a sound card if I have to, but I'd rather try to fix this.

Unplug the headphones and see if it works.

I seem to remember that Vista can use jack-detection to detect if you're using headphones, and will adjust volume to match.

Other than that, go into playback devices and make sure everything is detected correctly. In there, you can also adjust each individual speaker and input level by opening the Speaker device properties.

The problem I get occasionally is that the sound lags (slows down) and gets very staticy. Ill try reinstalling the drivers tomorrow

Still nothing when I unplug from the headphone jack. In playback devices there are three devices there: Speakers, Headphones, and Digital Output Device (SPDIF).

The digital output device says it's working, and the headphones either say not plugged in or working (depending on if there is something plugged in), and speakers saying not plugged in. If I plug in my speakers, nothing changes.

Go mess with the properties, maybe there's something on those speakers that's screwing everything up. Dunno.

I think I got it working, for some reason, the speakers were disabled and I had a hard time enabling them, but I'm pretty sure I got it working now.
