Diagnosing a computer with bootsplash
2007-02-10, 10:53 AM #1
I have a debian-sid based computer that has bootsplash. I apt-got a package (smbfs if it matters) and rebooted, the machine got stuck on the bootsplash and never loaded. I've used a boot cd to change the runlevel of the machine to 1, but the machine is still stuck on the bootsplash screen. Any idea on how I can get the text display again to get any sort of idea whats wrong?

Thanks

Have you tried killing the X-server?

CTRL+ALT+ BACKSPACE

Ah, great, that gave me the text output.

All it was was a very large volume hasn't been checked recently and it was doing that on boot.

Thanks!

no problem.

If you need to test the x-server again after making changes, type "startx".

If necessary, you can keep killing it with the aforementioned method.
