Well done Shred! Great work.

Downloading it now.

I think this is a good excuse to play through JK again.

Playing it at the moment.
It's a pity, though, that JK isn't that performant under Linux. :(

JK is the reason I still have Windows installed.

The cross hair is messed up. Anyone know why?
2007-02-11, 2:52 PM #10
Crosshair seems fine for me..?

However, movement seems way too fast -- could you run 50mph in JK...? I haven't played it on an older system in a while...everything seems 'twitchy' and crazy-fast.
woot!

Probably your graphics card. Newer cards stuff up the crosshair. (This is of course pertaining that it was like this before the mod).

That's just JK. JKE only changes models.

A lot of FPS games that were made 10 years ago had that kind of insane movement speed. You (and I'm sure everyone now, including myself) have gotten use to a much slower movement speed because a lot of games now of days are much slower pace.

Maybe that's it...or my brain is just slower these days..even without force speed, Kyle is un-freakin-believably fast.
woot!
2007-02-11, 8:08 PM #18
Kyle was always freakishly fast IIRC.

I remember using force speed on the outskirts of Jerec's Tower, circling it over and over again until I got bored.
2007-02-11, 8:46 PM #19
Yeah, with max force speed, you can actually injure (And after a while, kill) yourself by running into walls.
2007-02-11, 8:51 PM #20
Too bad JK's netcode was never good at all. People going max speed seem to teleport from one spot to another.

Heh, I remember that.

Did it today, actually. :psyduck:

Well I have a 64 bit processor and sometimes it will freakily speed up older games. I absolutely cannot play Unreal Tournament (GOTY) multiplayer because it wants to double speed up. Its strange cause SP works fine. While JK works fine on it ingame, sometimes I notice that when selecting a model for multiplayer he is running like twice as fast and looks goofy.

Actually, slow speeds on old games is plain BORING, cause there wasn't much to look at. it's not like Half Life 2 which can support so much eyecandy. I rather like it that older games, like Quake, TFC, focus on gameplay rather than realistic movement speeds
This is retarded, and I mean drooling at the mouth

I'd forgotten how much I missed that classic JK crunching sound caused by Kyle running into a wall fast enough to get a nosebleed.

I can't get JKE to work.

When I try to launch the game through the batch file, I get the dreaded "error: cannot load level".

I then tried to apply the JK unofficial patch, but it broke my jk.exe.

What now?

You didn't install the patch correctly. You installed the downgrade patch after patching your JK.exe. You should've backed up JK.exe before patching, if you didn't, you'll obviously need to copy it from your CD. Next time, read the instructions.

JKs fast speed is one of the main reasons that I continue to play it to this day. Modern games are too damn slow and end up pissing me off because of it. I'm a huge fan of force speed. :)

Thank you for posting it Brian! Was the rodian picture too small? Could you use this picture instead of the Rahn one? It's not a big deal though :D

And Kyles speed rules, hehe

It seems to work for me, the models look great but all the textures on the level are wrong.
It simply appears to be useing different textures.

Any idea what's wrong?
This is on a fresh install of JK.

I didn't see any screenshot attachments to the email. If they were in the zip file, I didn't look. I pulled them off JKHUB. I can probably replace the screenshot when I get around to it. But there are like 4 other levels I need to post, too. There were like a thousand spams in the levels inbox :(

Yeah, don't load a save game, start a new one. BTW, the patch changes "pinotnoir" to "level" so type "level 5" or whatever to skip levels.

I don't want to go off-topic, but was there ever a solution found to the hom problem with later video cards/later drivers? I can't really search massassi, as 'hom' is too short a word for the search-thingy to accept. Tried google, but can't seem to pull up anyting conclusive.

Looks great Shred, about to download now.

I got it working.

I had lots of fun with the nostalgia, but it seems that Jerec is easier to beat than I remember.

The new models/quality textures put the rest of the game's original textures to shame, though. Have there ever been any successful attempts to re-skin the maps? (by successful I mean released projects and not vaporware projects from years ago that never saw the light of day)

I actually did some calculations on that a while ago, with a test level that calculated the speed for me. With four star force speed, it came out to something like 60+ MPH.

It's been a loooooong time since I downloaded stuff from here. But it is indeed nice. It does improve JK a lot.
Code to the left of him, code to the right of him, code in front of him compil'd and thundered. Programm'd at with shot and $SHELL. Boldly he typed and well. Into the jaws of C. Into the mouth of PERL. Debug'd the 0x258.
