Access Application Development
2007-02-15, 4:00 PM #1
I need to develop an application for work, and do to circumstances beyond my control, my development tool needs to be Access '97. Thankfully the application is simple enough that Access should be sufficient.

I'm using the tabular form view to display the progress of several items simultaneously. Each task can have a any of ten or so subtasks to be completed. When the subtask is done I'd like the user to be able to click the toggle button for the task and have it change colors so the demarcation is more obvious. The problem is if I change the color for just row, the control changes color for all of them.

As far as I can tell, this is a limit of Access. If it's not, any idea how I can get around this problem? If it is, any other suggestions on what I can do?

Thanks

Buy a version that isn't 10 years old? :saddowns:

Seriously, I would never make an app in Access. It just isn't made for that kind of thing; it's more for thin database wrappers I believe. Not that Access makes a good database either. :saddowns:

I would never make an app in it either, except I have too. I can't get any sort of C++ development environment setup on these machines, so its the path I have to go.

Hmm well don't expect much support for it online, it's about 5 versions behind the current one. Maybe you can dig up some old newsgroup posts if you try really hard.

I know this advice was pretty lousy

What about C# or even VB? You can easily connect them to access using ADO.

They had a course on Office 2000 at my high school (I believe it was the latest version at the time) but they tried to teach it using Office '97.
