Is there any way to format a Lexar Jumpdrive?

I've got a hand-me-down Lexar Jumpdrive that's had about half of it's total space password protected. Is there any way to wipe the whole thing so I can get access to the full 256 mb?

The only way I can think of is to repartition it to get rid of the encrypted data that you normally can't format; qtparted should do it.

You can then repartition and reformat it in fat32 or whatever FS you want to use.

Is there a similar program that works in Windows?

Yes. It should be under computer management, drive configuration. I don't remember exactly where it is on XP anymore.

I'm still confused - In computer management/drive management (I can't seem to find anything called 'drive configuration') it won't allow me to delete or reformat the passworded part of the jumpdrive.

I think you might be out of luck. You might have to spend the $12 to replace it. :(

My brother has one of those, and I know that his foolish coworker managed to somehow delete everything on it including the u3 stuff and system files, but I don't think his was password protected.

He probably used the U3 uninstaller on the U3 website. However Lexar does does not use U3 software, it uses PowerToGo, and some other one. However I don't think he's talking about that, he's talking about just generally password protected files. I thought u'd just right-click and format the drive, I've done that many times before, but I don't know how that particular drive is formated/protected.

Not that I can think of (except partition magic, but that's not free).

download a Knoppix iso and either burn it or mount it in a VM.

Yeah, I know they're dirt-cheap. It was more of a spur of the moment thing anyways (trying to take a bunch of stuff home for the break).

You know what a LiveCD is, right?

Basically, you boot up a LiveCD, the OS (on the CD) gets loaded into your RAM, and you can use a linux distro without it even touching your hard drive. Good for testing stuff out, using a linux application without installing the OS, troubleshooting, etc.
