I just got my new laptop today, here are the specs for anyone interested:

Anyhow, after removing all of the annoying crap that comes with a dell computer I am left with the very eye pleasing background of Windows Vista. Playing around with some of the settings like the 3d windows is pretty cool. The laptop is fun as hell and since Vista is aimed at being more secure I guess they did that pretty well because for just about every damn thing I do I get a popup asking my permission. I turned every security setting that I could find to off ( I do that on all my computers anyways ). Internet explorer is much more efficient than it used to be and it is obviously designed based on firefox, but it does a good job. I dont feel the need to upgrade to firefox this time around because the popup blocker here is good and it has tabbed browsing. I dont see a real practical use for the 3d desktop unless I'm looking at a bunch of different porn. :o

Anyways, what are some other cool Vista things to check out?

That's almost identical to my laptop, except it costs more than twice as much!

Congrats. You paid $1000 for 200 mhz and windows vista!
Wikissassi sucks.

Boo Dell. I hate their customer service.

Is your case a slip and zip? Mine is like that plus its hard shell.

What did you build it yourself? And no, Windows Vista came with it free. I looked on Newegg at other laptops and stuff and they didnt come close to as good as this price for me.

Actually you did kinda get a shabby deal. I'd take that price if it was with like 4 year complete care, but not a standard 1 year warranty. But I'm also not a fan of inspirons at all. Much prefer latitudes, and they generally don't come loaded with any crap applications if you don't want them to.

Vista doesn't make them cost a cent more, unless you feel the need for Ultimate, when it's likely Business will do. I built my D620 before Vista came out and then after, and the cost came out exactly the same, to the cent, with XP Pro and Vista Business.

You got jacked on the price. Heck, I just customized a Toshiba laptop on their website with almost the same specs except its got a bigger hardrive, and it was only $1600. And best of all, its not a Dell!

Yea, I did the same thing except you didnt take into effect sales tax + shipping + my video card is better than what they offer on customizable + i have twice as much ram as they offered on customizable. With 1gig of ram and a 7600 gs as opposed to a 7900 gs with all other specs the same as my Dell, it priced at 2200 final exact buy it price.

I challenge anyone to find me the same specs for a better price without building your own. Ill send back the Dell and buy it instead.

Your laptop has similar specs as my laptop... except I have 120 GB and it's a Mac so I automatically win... unless I want to play games... or use MS Office without trying to track down a Mac copy of it offline.

I'm not going to lie, I doubt I'm ever going to go back to PCs again but I do miss gaming. Bah, I can still play SNES on my laptop!

Except they do offer the same amount of RAM that you got with your Dell on Toshiba and it has the exact same specs as your Dell except for the 7600 instead of the 7900. So, including tax (and free shipping from Toshiba) it comes out to about $1730. So you spent an extra $300 upgrading from a 7600 to a 7900.
