Goals of 2007
2007-02-22, 11:42 AM #1
Well now that we are well into the new year, most of us have most likely gotten a feel of how things will got and what we want to work for for the new year.

In my case, works been rather busy but its allowed me to pile a lot of money. I manage to set aside anywhere from 600 to 800$ a month. 2006 allowed me to clear all my debts so now I have a few options to work for.

My first goal is finally making a decision on what I'll be doing with my car this year. On one hand, fixing its various problems would most likely be cheaper, though there is a risk of further breakage. On the other hand a new car might be an interesting avenue. This will most likely vary based on my second goal.

In the last months I've gotten to know an amazing girl, over the lolinternet but surprisingly enough we've grown rather close, speaking over the phone an what not. I'm not one for internet relationships, never wanted them, but surprisingly enough this popped out of the blue and is feeling right. Depending on how things become over the year, we've talked of getting together. Considering her ties in Alaska, its most probable that if something does happen, it will involve me moving there. This means I'll have so save up a couple thousand dollars for the trip and to allow me to live there and pay my expenses until I manage to get an american visa, which by my research seems to be no easy feat. The easiest way is marriage. Hmmm. ((Note that if anyone have miracle knowledge of how to get a visa easy and fast, let me know wink wink unf unf.))

Through and through its all sounding rather insane to me at the moment, yet it feels right in my mind. We'll see how things go from here.

My last goal is to finally get my life rolling one way or another. For the last three years, since I've finished school, my life has been limited to working, sleeping, friends and internet. I'm somewhat tired of the boringness of it.

What are your goals for the new year?

Omega Engine, resource management, tools, and a game.

Buy a house.

Get a decent pay rise at my november review to pay for it (my boss knows Izzy and I are looking to buy our first place, so should give me a decent chunk O money).

Get an exercise routine I can stick to.

Go back to Germany (but that depends on saving for a house).

Keep the Kanucks out! ;)

Goals:

Lose weight - already started on this one; lost 7 pounds last month

Play bass more - starting to happen too; a couple of girls I back up just finished their demo in LA and we've got a couple of gigs in the next few weeks

There are other goals related to family and religion too that you won't find interesting.

No need for a visa to go there, but to actually live there and work, I believe you do.

I don't think I can just cross over and get hired by any company on a whim. As far as I know, any american company need a pretty damn good reason to hire a canadian with no visa.

Make sure I get in Glasgow University, but that ain't too hard. [Edit: That makes it sound like a crap Uni. :P I've got a conditional for my course, so I need to achieve a B in any subject at all this year ontop of my current qualifications.]

Various Musical Based objectives.

Make sure the gig I'm organising in the next week or two is a success.
nope.

Try getting into an University.

I still end up staying home for the rest of this year because I have army in January-July 2008 and I'd have to start studying after that... that is, if I somehow manage to get into some University

But either I'll finish some level (yeah right) or try to learn to draw properly. I guess the latter's kinda important.

Oh, and FINALLY check every TV series I've had lying around my HD's and DVD's for ages and play through the games I haven't played yet.

And maybe I could get a job.

Of course, these things actually happening... heh.

Survive third year.

Strengthen my connection with CA so I can get residency there and end my exile here on the frigid, horrible, expensive, etc, etc east coast.

Get the damned webcomic I'm doing with my friends finally, finally, finally off the ground after years of crap.

I plan to get drunk as many times as possible in 2007.

My goal for this weekend is to convince my girlfriend that me doing things I enjoy (hanging out with my friends or playing video games) is not a good reason for her to be pissed at me.

I was going to say that I didn't have any goals, but that was before I realized this counted as a goal.

This reminds me, a few weeks ago I saw one of those "CLICK HERE TO WIN A PRIZE!!!11!" adverts, which was for an American Visa. I thought it was funny.

Getting drunk as much as possible sounds like a fun goal, but it depends on another goal, ie. getting a job sometime soon.

Lastly, I've been thinking of giving up smoking this year. I'm pretty sure that even if I don't do it in the near future, the public smoking ban in June will go a long way towards forcing me to quit. As stupid as the ban maybe.

Things to do, in no specific order:
  • Finish Master's degree.
  • Finish stupid thesis.
  • Finish various unfinished publications.
  • Start working (most likely at Lockheed-Martin, given my successful interview).
  • Read a lot of books.
  • Start writing OS code for a BSD.
  • Finish Scrabble AI from a few years back.
  • Find a house/apartment.
  • Find a woman.
