Last night at about 2:03 AM CST, some guy came into my house. He walked downstairs, opened up my door, and whispered "Amber! Amber!", then walked towards the side of my bed. As I turned from being on my side to on my back, he immediately turned around and closed my door. That's the only time I caught sight of what he looked like, which to me looks a lot like Wolfy.

But it's not Wolfy. He hates Springfield.

I have two wooden staffs and a rusty katana (more for decoration) at the side of my bed, as I have no firearms, so I took the staff I trained with and went after him. Then I noticed I had no pants on. So I find some on the floor and continued to go, but as I went upstairs, I heard the door open and close.

So I went back to bed.

Anyways, has anyone ever been intruded or invaded by broken-hearted drunkards?

Never.

It would be the weirdest thing ever if something like that happened around here. Like, wtf.

Seeing we pay for that damn ADT security system every damn month, atleast I can say we haven't had an intruder go into our house without knowing.

No.

Although about 3 years ago during the winter one night we got a knock on the door from a neighbour who lives in the house behind ours. There had been someone climbing on top of our conservatory.

Who ever it was was gone though when the neighbour and my dad went out the back with a torch and a baseball bat.
nope.

Is torch slang for flashlight or something, or was he actually carrying a gas powered torch meant for burning things? Because that would be awesome.

You'd be amazed how many people have alarm systems and don't set them at night. I know, I don't get it either.

My family locks our doors religiously. I go into the house, the first thing I do is turn around and lock the door, even in the middle of the day. I always thought this was normal, but it's amazing how many people leave theirs unlocked. We also set the alarm system every time we leave the house, and at night.

i usually have to lock the doors at night because no one else seems to think that being robbed is a real consequence of leaving doors unlocked.

Sadly no, it's a British name for a flashlight. Apparently sometime in the 1900s, they didn't notice a difference between a kerosene burning torch on a wooden stick and a battery powered incandescent light, so they just called them torches too.

And a Flashlight doesn't have a light that flashes. What's your point?
nope.

My room is right above the main entrance to our halls, so on two occasions I've had the same guy try and climb the wall (about ten feet from the ground) to get in through my window. Both times it's happened I've been woken by him shouting for someone to let him in, followed by a scrabbling underneath my window. I walked over there with a sturdy cardboard tube, looked out the window, and asked him what the **** he thought he was doing.

Exactly.

I was going to say "No," but then I remembered there was a guy who came to my dorm a few times at like 5 in the morning, would peek into rooms to see if it was a girl's room, and if so, rummage around their underwear drawer. He peeked into my room a few times, would ask a dumb question, and usually i'd be too sleep deprived to realize it was that freak, and I should probably get rid of him.

Really skinny black guy, in his 40s or 50s, probably.

Nope. We live out of the way, and the nearest town of over 10,000 is an hour away. No real worries about crime.

Yeah I walked in to my garage one night and my dog had a drunk homeless guy cornered, so I just let her do the work of driving him away :P

I think I'm more of just a magnet for creepy people. I can't count how many times I've been followed in my car, people trying to run me off the road, weird stalkers calling/following me to classes. Arg...Why must people be so creepy?

The most recent "break in" was someone just walk through my gated yard and open my gated porch and steal my bike while my roommate was in the house. This was between 1:00 and 1:30 in the afternoon as well.

We had some creepy guy in our neighbour's back garden that set our dog off barking but when we tried to see who it was with torches, he just stepped quietly back along the gravel and stopped somewhere behind our neighbour's garage. It'd be okay if he'd pegged it but this guy seemed way too calm and in control. So we went back indoors and waited and watched but whoever he was obviously decided to leave.

Doesn't help that an infamous gerontophile rapist (who sneaks into peoples' houses dressed somewhat like a ninja :ninja: and removes entire window panes) is active in the area.

Never an issue. Lots of firearms and usually a large dog to deter intruders. A fence helps too...

All lights flash, whether you notice it or not.

Only if they're running on AC, which a flashlight isn't.

They're called flashlights because back in the day, they didn't hav ea lot of battery life, so instead of walking around with them on, people would carry them off, and when they wanted to see something in the dark, they would flash it for a moment and then turn it off again.

Nope, I've never had anyone come into my house, but we also lock all our doors. Why wouldn't you? Otherwise you're asking for people to break in.

My Freshmen year my roomate left the door unlocked while he went to the restroom and someone stole THIS.

I nearly cryed.

ever since then I keep the door locked unless I'm in the living room, with a clear view of the door.

its called a Flash-light...because you can light it in a flash

unlike torches that require finding something to light it with and then setting it on fire

Agreed. People who say things like "locks don't keep people out, they trap you in" and "locking your doors just means you're afraid of your neighbor" are morons.

As for the name "flashlight":

Can you still call it "breaking in" if the door is unlocked?

Last year, two days before the end of the spring semester, my roommate left the door unlocked one evening when he went out. I came back and found my laptop missing (I didn't have a security cable at the time). I nearly killed someone.

I had my CD wallet stolen for the same reason, roommate left the door open and went next door.

The closest thing to a break-in I've had was a kid with a knife running through my neighbor's backyard. I got such an adrenaline rush I thought my pacemaker was going to explode.

People have broken in on 4 occasions, but only once while we were home.

It didn't end well.

Another thing;

Is it some sort of statement of manliness that you all seem to sleep surrounded by weapons? Or am I the only person that smells a little bit of BS on your e-breath?
2007-02-24, 8:36 PM #36
I lock my door, since there's been occasional theft in the dorms, by dorm residents and by the people who tailgate into the dorms (ie don't have an id card? Follow someone who does and they'll let you in!). I keep my window locked when closed... not that it matters when I leave it open since I'm on the second floor.

I do, however, have a flashlight that is heavy enough to double as a bludgeoning device in my drawer. Not that I've ever used it for that. :v:
