yeah. dicaprio ranted about that earlier.

I was so happy to see that happen. I am REALLY bummed that Pan's Labyrinth didn't win best foreign picture and instead an almost unknown picture won. I think the academy was just trying to be fair because they did give Pan's Labyrinth three awards tonight, but in my opinion, Pan's Labyrinth was the best movie of 2006 and it seemed lame that it didn't win.
Think while it's still legal.
2007-02-25, 9:32 PM #4
Yeah, god forbid an unknown picture that's better win over a barely-popular film that's almost as good.

I have yet to see The Departed but, let me say, his film Taxi Driver is a tour-de-force of greatness.

Departed got best picture too. Definitely deserved it. About time Scorsese got his recognition.
2007-02-25, 9:35 PM #7
I need to see all these movies.

Nice to see Marty get an Oscar and the Departed winning, but after tonight's Oscars I am never watching another installment. The fact that Al Gore has an Oscar and Peter O Toole doesn't is just one reason, there were so many others on display.

Good job Little Miss Sunshine won best original screenplay or I would have been mad.

Also, Ellen was the worst host ever (and yes, I know Chris Rock has hosted as well...)

Has the Departed even come out in the UK yet? I saw Notes on a Scandal last night and it was excellent. Tonight I'm going to try and see Hot Fuzz.

It sucks that his award came from a remake instead of one of his originals.

I thought most of her bits were really funny.

Yeah, I went to see it when it came out last year (November, I think). Hate to break it to you, but it's currently out on DVD :P

Hot Fuzz is incredibly funny, by the way. I went to see it last Wednesday, and it's absolutely hilarious. Basically, it's one of those "If you loved x, then you'll love this..." (where x=Shaun of the Dead)

A large percentage of Scorsese's movies are adaptations of one kind or another.

It's about politics, not which movie is actually better.

Don't you realize that?
Wikissassi sucks.

tis a shame Children of Men or The Prestige didn't win anything.

Also its a shame The Fountain wasn't even nominated.

I've seen Hot Fuzz twice already, it was hilarious. Loved it!

I saw the Departed a couple of weeks ago, I liked it a lot. I'm glad it won.

I gotta say, at the time I thought the ending was a little sloppy, but whatever.

O'Toole has an honorary Oscar, though.

An Inconvenient Truth won one? Wow. That's pretty damn stupid.

Actually, I thought Ellen did all right. She's a different kind of humor than most hosts. I don't think I've ever seen a host go out in the audience as often as she did. The bit with the picture of her and Clint Eastwood for her Myspace was hilarious.

Why? I thought it was an excellent documentary.

If you like absurdly biased documentaries used to push an agenda, yes.
2007-02-26, 2:52 PM #28
Yes. I'm sure Al Gore really just intended it to be viral marketing for his new line of clothing "Al", now with reduced global warming.

Afraid of the inconvenient truth? :P

What agenda has Al Gore to push? He has no chance at becoming president...ever. People see him as a weak character overall, and they don't want that kind of person in the presidency.

Some people need to get their OWN bias out of films.

I haven't seen The Prestige or The Fountain yet, but I think Children of Men definitely should have won for "Best Achievement in Cinematography."

The Prestige is another film I currently adore. I've found the best way to describe it to people who haven't seen it yet is it's like a magic trick; when you watch it the second time (after learning the secret), it's all so clear.

The Prestige failed for me, because it required a suspension of disbelief, much like The Illusionist.

Also, I'd like to add, why is it, every time someone who happens to be openly liberal releases a documentary movie, it ends up being viewed as "biased and false" by everyone on the right?

Duh...
The Right hate the Left. Likewise the Left hate the Right.

Right: The left are stupid. Lets keep everything the same.
Left: The right are stupid. Lets change everything.
God: You both suck!
2007-02-27, 4:15 AM #40
I never claimed it to be biased or false. In fact, it was quite objective. However, it failed to go into a lot of important detail, I think, and merely keeps chewing on old known facts. When I go to see a documentary, I want it to tell me something interesting, not repeat stuff I already know.

The only reason it got so damn popular is because Oprah pushed it.
