I've come into some money, and I've been thinking it's about time to give my Athlon XP 2800+, GeForce FX5700 system an upgrade. I know AMD FX processors are in the 70s now, and Intel has a fine line-up with their Core 2 Duo series, but I'm wondering as to whether or not this would be worthwhile. I see Fx62s, processor only, going for $3xx.xx. Biggest flaw I see here is socket 939, but since I take my time between upgrades (as evidenced by my current system), will it make that much of a difference in 3-4 years if I don't have a socket AM2 system?

I'd probably keep just the processor and motherboard, sticking with my current case, RAM, HDD, removable disk drives,etc. I'd need a power supply and new card, perhaps something like this:

So, is the Tigerdirect deal worth the money? Or would I be better off getting a Core 2 Duo system?

One other issue I thought that's both a bane and a boon, is that the motherboard utilizes DDR400 RAM. Bane, because I can't easily upgrade with DDR2 memory, boon because I can use the RAM I already have and don't need to buy any new memory.
