Gears of War multiplayer was awesome back when I could find a game that wasn't full of glitchers. Back when I didn't have to kick half the players from my own game for doing them.

I hate *******s.
Wikissassi sucks.

I agree wholeheartedly. The only thing good about cheaters is how you feel when you can still beat them when they're cheating.

Tehy still haven't patched the thing already? Dang.

What type of glitches?
.
2007-03-01, 8:29 PM #5
Yeah, I haven't played in a few weeks, but I don't remember any glitches back when I used to play a lot.

The big one right now is the sliding pickup. Normally, you have to physically stop and are vulnerable for several seconds (actually, exactly as long as it would take for sustained Lancer fire to take you down) while you pick up a weapon. There is a glitch that, if you roll at grab the weapon at just the right time, you can pick it up without stopping. Your character appears to slide over the weapon.

Some people say it's not a glitch. Some people say it's the only way to win. Well, the host can't do it, because it relies on the delay caused by network latency to work, and if the host can't do it, it's obviously a glitch. And, if someone is waiting to kick your *** when you stop to pick up the weapon, DON'T ****ING PICK IT UP. That's why it's a damned tactical shooter! Try using your brain and watching for an opportunity to slip in and grab it!
Wikissassi sucks.

That's not exactly what I'd call cheating.

The most annoying glitch I'v encountered involves the Lancer's chainsaw. It seems to automatically explode people with the chainsaw, rather than going to the wild screaming animation. Basically, it prevents anyone from attacking for the 3 seconds it takes to saw through someone. They tap you with the thing, you explode, they move on.

I hardly encounter glitchers anymore, though. You guys should jump on some time, I'm on frequently (ProfessorSteven). Usually Thursday-Sunday, in the evening (PST). I managed to find a group of guys with roughly the same schedule and skill level, so we get some good games. Turns out, they all live about 20 minutes from where I'm at.

You're blowing your skirt over a tiny glitch? Bah. I thought this was going to be about 13 year olds using aimbots and/or wallhacks.

Or they're just competitive.

I play CS and WC3 rather competitively, and I'll admit I used to abuse glitches hardcore in Starcraft back in the day (mostly for funnies--flying a templar into their resources and zapping their workers was fun times.), but I've only glitched once or twice in both, and usually by accident (Sometimes CS:S doesn't blind me when the flash goes off, for no particular reason.). Glitching is lame, but it's not cheating--it's taking advantage of holes in the gameplay. I just hear Gears has a ridiculous amount of holes :p

most good nf saberists in jk used to take advantage of glitches due to high latency as well (back when we all had 56k's)

Multiplayer cheaters annoy the hell out of me, but I can't really give a damn if someone cheats in Single Player.

The problem I have is mainy that online with randoms people just play for themselves. If you play as a team it doesn't matter that it takes a split second to pick up a weapon because you would get your team to lay down covering fire to stop the opposition from aiming at you while you make a swift pickup.

That's why I normally play with the blokes from my office on an evening - it's a friendly affair with awesome teamwork.

Yes it is. It's this attitude that destroys multiplayer.

Let me make this absolutely clear : Almost all of the glitches in Gears of War require some level of latency to perform. Therefore, the host CAN'T DO THEM. If the host can't do it, no one else should be able to either, and when they do, it's cheating.

The Live! staff is finally starting to ban people who glitch in ranked games. And I say finally, because ranked has been a joke for months. The game relies on teamwork, yet not only is there no party system, but it's almost impossible to get into your friends games. If you do play ranked, chances are someone in there will be glitching, and the host can't kick them.

There is a small subset of glitches that ONLY the host can perform, such as chainsawing yourself and the unlimited sniper shot, but neither of these do anything besides get the host killed (You don't have to reload the snipe... but it doesn't do any damage either.) The gameplay killing glitches (Super jump, the roadie run where you can still fire, the instant chainsaw, and the slide) can never be performed by the host. The escape glitches can be done by anyone, and they are the worst. You can't kill the person unless you go out after them.

Host's also don't get said delay, and last I checked shooting out of your back while roadie running (at least on the other player's screen) was a symptom of host advantage. Everyone I know who plays complains about the host advantage, and say they have to utilize the glitches in order to beat the host, or else the delay will get them killed.

pfft... halo 2 had that same problem, and live was not doing anything about it. i quit playing for about 2 months because of that very problem. i lost 4 levels in my ranking in about 6 straight games.. 5 of the 6 were glitchers/mods.

As Jonk can confirm, I'm on Live playing Gears quite a bit lately. I've never encountered any glithces or latency issue that can't be beaten by being a good player. The host issue most often arises hwen a host snipes a player before the player gets a chance to move, but even then the host needs to be a pretty good shot. Glitches aren't even that annoying, really, if you know how to defeat them and/or have them kicked. It's not really that bad, most people are just whiney-girls.

I must admit I've not come across any of these glitching folk either.

But Professor Steven touches children in their speical places.

You think playing Gears Of War is bad...trying playing Jedi Knight back in the day. :)

Well, try to play a game of checkers with a Special Ed class. There are latency issues.

This is why I don't play console games online--glitches are there, and continue to be there, for months and months and months.

No, that's called 'stopping, turning around, and firing'. You'd be surprised how few people know that you can do a quick turn around by pulling the stick back and holding A, and the map-load screen tips actually tell you how to do it. The roadie run shotgun is different. The player has to do a chainsaw long jump into a staircase at just the right angle then run away, or something - I've never actually done it myself. Then they are in a permanent roadie run where they can still fire. If you thought twitchy shot gunners were annoying before, try hitting one while he twitches at roadie run speed.

I'm not saying the host doesn't have an advantage because of latency. But if you're lagging enough that it matters, find a better host. What grinds my gears is when people spout nonsense like the host's shotgun doing more damage. What kind of fool really believes Epic would give a damage boost to the host's weapons?

And there are an amazing number of people who ***** when I kill them with the hammerburst. I guess, because all the 'good' players say it's weak, that when I pick it up it shouldn't actually do more damage than the lancer like it was programmed too.
Wikissassi sucks.
