The Departed

I just finished watching The Departed and I must say I am very disappointed. Infernal Affairs is my favourite action movie of all time; and despite all the awards and nominations that this American release has recieved, I think they really ruined the tensions and the pace of the movie that the Hong Kong version had. I really think that for those who have seen The Departed, I think they should really take a look at how the original did it; and how the new one ruined it.

I agree with some of your sentiments about The Departed being a bit of a letdown... but Infernal Affairs is your favorite action movie of ALL TIME? Seriously?

I must agree that The Departed is amazing.
Think while it's still legal.

Yeah, it's a brilliant film. It was so good that I spent the entirety of it wishing I could punch Matt Damon in his smug little jerkface.

Hang on, that wasn't anything to do with the film.

Have any of you guys seen infernal affiars though? I can understand that maybe if all those concepts were new to you guys I would think The Departed would be awesome. But the fact that it was based off Infernal Affairs, and completely changed how the movie felt kinda made it weak. I understand that the director put it into his style, but to me, its just no the way to do it.

And yes, Infernal Affairs is my all time favourite; but maybe because I'm chinese and I know the culture.

I, too, am one of the few beings on Earth left completely unimpressed by that movie.

It's usually those who haven't seen IA will praise it and those that have, will say it sucks. I'm with the latter. Don't get me wrong, Scorsese deserves an oscar for his previous films, but The Departed is basically a complete ripoff of IA with an idiotic ending.

The Departed was a decent film, but not Oscar-worthy.

I stopped believing that the Academy knew what it was talking about when it forgot the definition of a documentary.

Yeah, let's just get pissed because Michael Moore got recognized for making a good movie and he's a damned LIBERAL!

Infernal Affairs was pretty sweet. Haven't seen the departed though.

I've seen quite a few Asian films, but the whole time I was watching Infernal Affairs I felt that it was very... Americanized.

(I still enjoyed the film.)

Haha, really? Maybe because it was one of the more clever movies from Asia Media. But now that you mentioned it, I can see what you're trying to say.

I've seen both, I enjoyed both. I'd take Oldboy over IA anyday though.

I'd take Oldboy or Lady Vengeance over most anything.

There are plenty of idiots who have gotten Oscars, and that didn't bother me. But Moore's "documentary" pushed an agenda instead of merely presenting facts of a situation. His political stance is indirectly related to my reason of my dislike for him.

(Note: I do quite enjoy Canadian Bacon, despite the fact that it's a Michael Moore film)

Not only did he push an agenda, he flat out lied in Bowling and Fahrenheit.
