Okay, I swear there must be some uber-bank of sound effects somewhere. In fact I thought I brought this up here on Massassi once already but I searched and couldn't find it. I'm constantly hearing sounds in pieces of media from very different sources, often years apart. I swear I've heard "screams" on the History Channel re-enactments that are the exact same scream that Kyle lets out when he falls off a cliff in Dark Forces. And I know you've all heard the female police dispatcher say "70.5... Code 6.. 105 northbound route 62" (or something like that) in all kinds of movies and TV shows. (especially 'Cops', but i've heard it used all over the place)

I often hear bits of audio in movies, games, music, or TV shows that sound identical to a bit of audio I heard in some other movie, game, song, or TV show that I heard last month, last year, last decade, from some completely different author, company, producer, artist, whatever.

Anybody else notice this?

I've heard recycled sound effects from video games, even JK. Why go to the trouble to create a sound effect that already exists?

The sound of a couple enemies when they see you in the original DooM is used alot. Sometimes it's used as a camel sound O.o

I've noticed the Dark Forces scream being used too. I'm still trying to figure out where it originates from.

Some of the sounds actually have a documented reputation for being overused stock effects, like the "Wilhelm scream".

I swear the sound of the elevators from Doom is used in like every single thing ever.

What about that scream that you hear when you select the Academy in starcraft? I know it's used everywheres, but I don't know the term for it.

Haha, check the 'castle thunder' sound effect on the willhelm scream wikipedia page, that one's so recognizable.

You know the sound that Dark Forces' Gamorrean guards made when you hit them? I hear that sound all over the place...

Yeah, that's one that I have noticed a couple of times.
