That looks really good.

I have no interest in watching game footage videos for some reason. I guess it's that... I like to wait and play it myself to see what it's like. Weird! $_$

It's certainly pretty, but I'm not entirely engages in the potential gameplay like I am when I watch, say, footage of Portal.

Looks pretty cool, but it's nothing amazing.

BioShock probably won't be revolutionary, but it will offer the open style of gameplay that so many FPSes still lack. The original System Shock from 1994 has more features than mainstream FPS games. BioShock looks to be a lot like System Shock 2 with updated graphics and slightly refined gameplay. That's fine, but some areas to seem to lack that refinement.

"Innovation" and "first person shooters" is like asking for a Hummer with fuel efficiency. You can't really revolutionalize this genre of gaming, this isn't the 90's anymore.

But I will say Bioshock looks to offer more than the standard FPS. And it has nice water effects.

i think it'll be a fun game. you have plenty of options. if you want to kill everything that moves, you can. but you don't have to and i think that's what will make this game stand out over some others.

They suck things out of dead people that can speed up your character's development (that's what she was doing with that big syringe). You can choose to go after them to steal from them if you want, though you have to go through those rather large scary things you saw the nice lady fight in the video.

That thing with the teddy bear was pretty cool.

I think the first sentence sums my thoughts up pretty well too, "Every piece of new media I see for Bioshock makes the unbearable wait until August 21 seem even longer."

I still think it looks fairly "meh".
nope.

Martyn, BioShock is definately headed for the 360. There is some downloadable content availiable in The Marketplace.

The game looks very interesting. I look forward to reading some positive reviews upon its release.

The game looks fun to watch and it very marketable (via teasers/trailers like this) but I dunno if it would actually be fun to play. It seems like alot of stuff could just end up being annoying if it doesn't work the way you expect.

To be honest, if it's anywhere near as good as System Shock 2 I'll part with £50 for it. It looks like it will scare the living c r a p out of me and that I will not try to play it with the lights out. This will be plenty for little ol me.

I agree that it looks a lot like System Shock 2 in a lot of ways, but it doesn't really give the same feel of integrated gameplay that SS2 had. Like, they talk about "hacking the security drones", but as best I could tell all that involved was clicking on them, and then for some reason shooting the pistol sets their target?

Also, the targetting seemed really lacking. I don't know if they'll increase that in the release, but I don't think I saw any crosshairs for the pistol, and I wasn't quite sure how the telekinesis thing worked, like if it just took anything in front of you, or if you had to aim specifically which could be annoying if there isn't much feedback.

Plus it looks really scary, and I'm a wimp about that sort of thing. :o
I love SS2 and Thief and AvP [though I can't play as Marine or I get too scared :p], but almost any other scary game/movie I don't really go for.
Also, I can kill you with my brain.

I think the HUD may have been turned off. If it was a work in progress it may have been fugly - which would explain the lack of targeting :)

You're not alone. XD I loved the concept of Resident Evil (getting by and surviving with limited resources), but I put down the controller after my first major scare and never played the game again. <.<;; (It was the Gamecube remake by the by)

So while I find System Shock to be interesting, I doubt I have the courage to actually play it start to finish. XD

It's just a game, pansies.

Seriously, with SS2's dated graphics, I really can't see myself getting freaked out by playing it (visually that is). Its audio can be creepy at times but I'm fully aware that its just a game so I'm not scared at all when I play it.

However, Clive Barker's Undying on the other hand... :gonk:

Hell yeah - when those hybrids spawn behind you... *shudder*

Yeah, SS2 totally freaks me out sometimes, even if it is fairly ugly.

Although to be honest, with the graphics mods it doesn't look too bad.

You should check out some of the fan missions for System Shock 2. There's some really good ones. A couple of almost expansion-sized ones as well.

And we can't forget Thief 2X for Thief II. That's literally a fan made expansion. It has some 12 levels, all of which are quite large.

The graphics are great, but I started thinking "Doom 3 with more lighting and varied scenery." However, I know they are aiming for a FPS with dynamic environments in numerous ways; the story of Rapture itself is intriguing. They seem to hit the atmosphere well.

I guess I can't get over Deus Ex. I liked the hundreds of conversations and novel-like plot. It's almost impossible to do that when everyone is a zombie.

This game looks absolutely nothing like Doom 3.

Oh, you mean *that* kind of fear. Yeah, I'll admit I had those moments in SS2, mostly at times when my character is low on health and not properly prepared for a unexpected ambushed. It really hated those moments when something pops out behind you and one shots you.

My previous post was about the fear you get from the overall atmosphere and experience of the game (horror-type fear). That I didn't feel when playing SS2 but the shocking "oh ****!" fear you get I did get a few times :P I actually got that quite a lot in the Half-Life games too.

I only got that once in the HL series, got it many times in SS2, and got the atmospheric fear in SS2. Then again, the HL series didn't deliver for me at all, so to each their own.

[LEFT]Thief is also quite scary. Thief more so than Thief II. The red armored ghosts with swords and dragging chains are just chilling when you play at night. The Thief and System Shock games always had well mastered sounds and excellent soundtracks, which contributes greatly to the eeriness.

The cradle level in Thief III really freaked me out, too.
