Doctor Massassi, I am in need of advice
2007-03-06, 1:32 PM #1
I just got back into gym class fourth session, and I feel very light headed after I work out. In fact, I'll feel light headed before I'm worn out. I think that has to do with my food intake. Recently, I've been eating less and less. Now I'll get half way through my lunch (PB&J on wheat bread, apples and some crackers) and just not want not eat anymore. I think that this is probably going to cause me problems, so what should I do to fix it?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Consult a physician.

As a complete layman, here's my take:

I never have a good apetite, I don't eat a lot. I don't know what causes it for me or you. But I do know that we need way more food and energy. What I do to help it is I eat a lot of smaller meals whenever I can, and a little bit before I work out I have a shake that includes a lot of sugar, usually gives me plenty of energy. I don't know if that's the right thing to do, but it works. Also, if you're working out and not eating enough, you're wasting a lot of time. Drink protein shakes or something every day. I drink 2 a day and it seems to help.

However, you say you get light-headed before you get worn out tired? I'm not exactly sure that's a food thing. Hopefully someone on here knows what that is, if not, yeah, go ask a doctor.

PB&J has a lot of sugar. I think you're sugar crashing.

I agree with the opinion of this fine bloke above me.

And it's one of the 3 main meals of the day, get some meat in you damnit!

Vegetarians don't eat fish either.

As someone stated above, you need to consult a physician. Dieting isn't rocket science, but if you're worried that it may be something else, this is the last place that you should be seeking help.

I was emphasising that I didn't mean daily Bacon sandwiches or hefty lumps of steak.

From what I understand there are different "levels" of vegetarianism. Don't ask.

Never take in account of online medical advice

However, here's some from me >.>

Start eating small meals throughout the day. A rule of thumb is to divide the average number of hours you're awake by three. So for example, I'm usually up around 15 hours a day. I divide that by three, and I eat 5 small meals a day. Food spread out throughout the day is a obvious good idea for your body to gradually take in nutrients, rather than being forced to all at once.

Also drink lots of water. You'll be surprised that 80% of Americans are dehydrated and don't even know it (My gym is the source on that, don't know of any online versions). Dehydration could cause light-headiness, especially after physical activity.

Gyms and workout places are a prime place for illness exchange. Wash your hands often, and use hand sanitizer after you're done. Sounds like you're simply getting sick, and the gym is a good place to do that.

1. Eat

2. We are not doctors. Go to a doctor.

I don't get why people are so afraid to go to doctors

It has to do with money.

I don't think it's anything serious, I just need to get my metabolism going again.

If you start feeling lightheaded or generally tired all the time it might be a good idea to go get your iron levels checked. Could be anemic. I doubt that you are though.
yay for not posting much ever

If you don't have insurance, is there at least a free clinic in your area?

Hell, your school nurse could tell you better than us.

I guess, since I'm a medical student, I can give you some solid advice.

Recent studies say: go see a damn physician.

It's hard for a even real physician to work without the patient there.
2007-03-06, 6:22 PM #27
Could be low blood pressure, could be you're not eating enough, could be any one of a lot of things.

If you're really worried about it, go to a doctor.

And to the fish/vegetarian argument: A real vegetarian doesn't eat fish. Because they're animals/meat. There are vegetarians who say things like "I'm a vegetarian, but i'll eat ham. Or fish. Or beef." or whatever. They suck.

Sounds like you should get a few more carbs in your diet. Things like bananas (or fruit in general, whole grain wheat bread, stay away from processed sugars though, those are bad anyway you look at it.

But like said before, you should definitely go see a doctor if it doesn't stop soon.
2007-03-06, 7:18 PM #30
You should eat just like an apple a day or something
This is retarded, and I mean drooling at the mouth

It could be a blood sugar thing. It could be a heart rate/blood flow thing. Either way, it's something that you should have checked out. If I were to get a call to a school with a kid complaining of light headedness, you're going to the hospital because there are just too many things it could be.

wow, that could be any number of things. most of which could be solved by eating more (and eating right) if upping your food intake doesn't fix it... go to a doctor. if you cant afford it, go to any emergency room (but don't bring any ID or any thing they can identify you with) fake fainting or something dramatic. soon as they "revive" you and tell you whats wrong... book it out of there... *

*don't really do that, because i will hate you forever if you do.
