Obviously, the solution is to stop these stupid back ups.

No. No one would care.

Well, backup the accounts and the smilies. The posts and images don't matter. Or, just don't keep the old backups.

Meh, I don't want to lose old anything, and it's easier to manually go in there and delete some backups once in a while than to spend an hour writing a script to delete old backups.
