It's been midterms weeks around here, and as such my diet has consisted of straight takeout pizza and Chinese food for dinner, doughnuts and pastries for breakfast. Usually I cook for myself, but when time is at a premium my diet usually degrades pretty badly.

Just wondering what you guys wind up eating in a pinch or just in general when there isn't much time to actually prepare food. Is ramen still pretty much the standard? Or maybe there are healthier alternatives to emergency rations?

I've been making an effort to eat healthier lately. I've just been buying a lot of fruit, deli meat, and whole grain bread. It really doesn't take long to throw some meat and cheese on bread and grab a banana.

That's what I do at least.

That's terrible. Even if I'm starving, I won't eat Taco Bell.

Anyway, cereal and yogurt. Lots of it.

And yet you could still be lacking essential nutrients in your diet. :P

Eating 100% healthy can be a challenge. :(

More like near impossible.

I usually eat cereal and fruit a lot more; cheapish with some decent nutritional value. And canned goods are a God-send.

Tea..
Rice cakes if I can afford them.
Sometimes instant oatmeal packets.

I also carry around a couple tropicana fruit-wise fruit bars for emergency in case I wind up mortally lacking sugars and need sommat to stave off death or panic attacks.
Also, I can kill you with my brain.

Same here. Quick and easy to make a sandwich. Or a bowl of cereal with some fruit. I also make big batches of food when I cook so I have a lot of left overs to eat when I get home late or time is short.

Personally, if I have to eat in a hurry, I throw quick&nasty lasagna together, or make an eggcake. Alternatively, strammer-max, scrambled eggs, or home hotdogs (No, none of that crud street peddlers sell. Wheat buns, frankfurters, and Korean marinaded carrots, smothered in good ketchup and mayonaise.)

However, if I have more then ten minutes, I might as well make pancakes, buckwheat porridge or steak with potatoes.

Dry cereal (right now as a matter of fact!), bread, generally try to have some kind of fresh fruit on hand. Also various snack foods.

Hum. Well, maybe we should start a thread, and swap recepies? Some of the more "hearty" foods are actually very easy and quick to make.

For example, eggcake:

Three-four eggs, three-four spoons of flour, salt, baking soda.
Crack eggs in bowl, drop in flour, and mix for a few minutes, until it will become even. Add pinch of salt, and pinch of soda, and mix in. Pour out on frypan, fry for five minutes (until golden from down), flip over, and fry for a bit more.
Take off, cut apart, and eat. Could be eaten as is, or used instead of bread.

Mug of 'Cup a Soup'. That normally fills me up and for breakfast coffee does the trick. Trouble is when I don't have breakfast, I have the munchies and means eating between meals. Thats how I put the weight and was the reason why I was ill last week.

Frozen ravioli, frozen tortellini, frozen pierogies. Lots of them. Stuffed pasta is usually the basis of my diet.

Lately, I've been trying to eat more varied foods, with more than just carbohydrates. Last summer I was a lot more creative with what I made, but as responsibilities and stress started piling up, I fell back on ravioli. I'm trying to get back into my old ways, though. I don't really cook all that nice unless I got someone to cook for. And even then, I only bring out the big guns if I feel I have to impress them.

Heh, speaking of eggs I made some egg drop soup. Basically just chicken broth, soy sauce, and eggs with some spices. Added some chili sesame oil to taste, pretty good stuff. Recipe exchange doesn't sound like a bad idea.

I usually forget to eat when I'm busy. Though I tend to have a jog of water around if I'm really hungry.
