What a couple of morons. Did they think that was going to work? Plus, those dicks didn't even think about the fact that they had HIV and they were going to be getting blood all over the place? Idiots.

so..my understanding is that if you cut your wrists with a razor you are emo and it will kill you

But if you slice through the whole thing with a saw you're an idiot and that it probably won't work?

And even if those "dicks" had HIV its not like the EMTs or responding officers are going to start licking up the blood or rub it on any open wounds they might have.

No, it won't kill you to slit your wrists, at least not necessarily. Unless they do it along the arm and not across, the cut may be too small for them to die quickly and unless they're all alone, they COULD be saved.

And yes, if you slice the thing off, you're stupid. Blood vessels tend to collapse when limbs get amputated, stopping blood flow out of the wound, so there is a good chance you won't die from it. (Or so my teacher told us...I can't find it in the book right now)

And no, the EMTS aren't going to be licking up they blood, they're going to be very careful. But what about the people that find them? What if those people didn't know any better and tried to help? What if they hadn't seen the note?

Anyway, if I sounded hostile it's because I have zero respect for people who give up on life.

I always wonder about people like this. Are they actually so stupid that they think it's going to work, or is it an extreme "cry for help" case? If I wanted to commit suicide I can think of several fool-proof ways that would be far less painful (or, painful and still foolproof if you want to make yourself suffer).

With amputations, the veins and arteries tend to naturally clamp themselves shut, which will slow or even stop the bleeding. When someone slits their wrist, they aren't cutting the vein lengthwise.

It does if it is within a bodily fluid. Not that it's a huge chance, but as long as the blood had not dried, HIV would survive in it for a little while. Certainly it would still be present in the amount of time it would take someone to find the guys.

They should have started by taking off each others heads. It would be difficult to do simultaneously, so the first guy could take off the other guys head, and then take off his own head.

Terminally ill? They didn't even have AIDS yet, they were just HIV+. You can live with HIV for years and years and never actually develop AIDS.

You're right, I don't know how much that sucks. I'd like to think if I was going to die I'd appreciate life a little bit more than to end it even MORE prematurely.

Plus, like vinny said, it was hardly a death sentence. Even without treatment, people live for many years with HIV before ever getting AIDS. With treatments, I am pretty sure it's something like 10-20 years on average, isn't it?

Seppuku is extremely messy. Not only do you have your bowels falling from your stomach, but you're also decapitated (in ritualistic seppuku) to stop you from "disgracing yourself".

No, you regain your honor if you commit seppuku. The decapitation is done afterwards, and only if the others deem your suicide to be an honorable one.

Yes, but honor has nothing to do with the disgrace I'm talking about. You're supposed to commit seppuku without screaming or crying out. That's why they decapitate you (albeit not right away).
