Do you believe?
2007-03-15, 1:20 PM #1
Do you believe in spiritual things? Ghosts, seances, necromancy, demon possession, spirits, angels, God(s), etc?

A bunch of us in school today were all talking about different weird things that have happened to us. It was eerie how our stories about demon possession were so similar, and other people had stories that were odd/freaky. I know I have a lot of personal experiences that lead me to believe there is something to it. What do you all think?

Nope. It's all in your head, or coincidence.

I try to be open-minded and I've heard some weird stories from some people, but I don't believe any of it other than that there's life outside this planet (I don't believe in abduction stories though, in fact I don't believe that "they" have ever visited earth).

Edit: I realize that alien life is off-topic here, though.
Looks like we're not going down after all, so nevermind.

No, but then I realized it was all crap. Just like Santa and the Easter bunny.

Yes and no. I don't believe in a man in the sky that created us, that's just a primitive part of human nature, which (hopefully) we will eventually outgrow as evolution would have it. I don't believe in things like ghosts, angels or demons, but considering the truly awe inspiring complexity of this reality which we exist in, I think a lot is possible as far as consciousness is concerned.

The majority of it is probably untrue to the extent I feel the need to vote no.

It's just as likely as there being space aliens, and I totally believe they exist. There's plenty of stories about devils and ghosts in Jersey. Plus, zombies definitely exist, and they're kind of related.

Being held down in bed by a demon taht "growls" is actually sleep paralysis.

Happened to me a few times when I was 18, scary sh*t.

As for the rest of it

Angels and Demons.... doubtful.

Bigfoot... maybe. Just look at Jep :ninja: BLAM!

Ghosts.... are real, but not what we think they are, more like recordings of ancient past in energy that gets stored in the environment. Poltergiests are something else.

Aliens.... helll yeh.

Arguement over.

No.

Ghosts? No.

Angels? No.

Mediums, psychics and fortune tellers? No.

Aliens somewhere in the universe? Probably.

Aliens visiting earth? Very Doubtful.

However, aliens if they exist wouldn't be 'supernatural' since they'd still be in the universe and be just as confined by the laws of it as we are.

You're absolutely right. For the sake of this thread, aliens fall into the realm of all things natural.

Ghosts? No. It's just a legend passed down. Seriously, it doesn't fit with atheism, or any other religion's beliefs. .
2007-03-15, 8:29 PM #25
Yea, for the most part.

There are obviously people that do magic and rituals and worship the devil, the question is whether it actually does anything. I think it might every once in a while, but nothing drastic and definitely not from any wiccan teenager sitting in his basement.

Angels and Demons: Definately, though I'm doubtful of them having any influence over anything in our world.

Ghosts: nah

Bigfoot, Yetti, Seamonsters, etc: ridiculous
It took a while for you to find me; I was hiding in the lime tree.

Ridiculous?

It's almost a certainty that there are sea creatures so bizarre and huge that we would call them monsters. We've only explored a fraction of the oceans and deep sea diving vessels have reported glimpses of some really crazy things.

Angels and Demons:No
Ghosts: No
Aliens: Likely
Bigfoot/Yeti: It's a possibility but we would have expected to encounter something them by now.
Seamonsters: Likely

I've always been into the supernatural and it spirals around the relam of magic and myth. I've never denied the existance of mythical things and play on elements of them. Im into Astrology and belive in what be read in the signs of the zodiac and in fact everything that is mythical is intresting to me. Im also into Greek mythology as well as all other types of ancient Mysticism.

It probably extends from my Nan who's into magic and stuff, and has a fascination for witches (there everywhere) and belives that there's something going on at Pendle Hill in Lancashire and its always dark there. So yeah I could go on and on, but when it comes to the supernatural Im always intrested :)

Then I saw her face, now I'm a believer!

What can I say..... I'm religeous, of course I believe in angles and demons.
Hmmmm.... As a matter of fact I believe in psychics and ghosts in a certain way.

Bigfoot/Yeti : I just heard on the news that they have found a new species of leopard somewhere, didn't catch where. so I'll give it the benefit of the doubt.

Seamonsters : I agrea there is something down there but I don't think it is like old mythes tell.

Aliens : ..... I've seen U.F.O.'s, not close up but stars that suddenly shot off like a blurr and other stars that moved like no air craft I know about. (only at night.)

No one mentioned dimensions! hehe

Maybe 'monsters' because they freak us out, like that prehistoric shark thing, but there wouldn't be anything magical about critters that we haven't seen much of.

That's called a shooting star, or a meteor. I saw plenty last summer while up at my trailer.

Yeah, I've seen an UFO too. Except it was moving in rectangular patterns before disappearing. Of course, UFO doesn't mean aliens, simply a flying object I couldn't identify. :P

Unless a personal experience has something objective to back it up, it's entirely useless.

actually as far as sea monsters go, its not anywhere near ridiculous. there are several ancient and extraordinary species that are still in existence today. ie: Southern African frilled shark, coelacanth, giant squid. it is probably not real likely that a plesiosaurus type "monster" is still around today, however i would say its foolish to say the possibility is "ridiculous"

as for Bigfoot... i don't particularly believe in it, but again. the possibility of an as of yet unidentified species of primate thingy... in the dense north/western redwood forests... i wouldn't completely discount it. although i must admit i am skeptical of it.

If you step back and look at everything that is around you, How can you believe that these things cannot exist? That is a very narrow minded view.
I mean, if you look at the way some of the tribes of native peoples in south america live, The things we have seem like magic. A cellphone for example.
We consider them primative because in our minds we're more advanced than them.
What is to say that there isn't a civilization far more advanced than us living in another dimention and they consider us just as primative?

I'm just saying...
