About time

I post this from my Wii.

I got 100% in Zelda in 5-6 days, 50-some odd play hours, though to be fair I used a guide for the last 10 pieces of heart and half the poes.

It's my new favorite Zelda.

I'm also getting used to the on screen keyboard. Needs USB keyboard though.

I need a router for my Wii/PC now though... opinions (see poll)?

[Edit: *wired]

[Note: I think I already established a lack of leechable hotspots. So it's more of a joke option. I'm leaning toward a wireless router.]

Pecking is annoying, although I am quickly becoming more adept.

Yes, I am back on my PC now. I probably won't make too many forum/blog posts from my Wii. I'm impressed with it though, it handles all the quick edit javascript stuff nicely. This is a real browser here (let's hope the DS one is just as good).

So... my favorite things about Zelda:
  • Casting the fishing rod during the final final boss battle lowers the boss' defenses, haha. It's so great because it WORKS.
  • Beat up a Cucco and they DON'T all rush in to kill you unlike previous Zelda games. Instead you take control of the Cucoo and can flap around for a few seconds.
  • The soundtrack is great. I found some of it online, not sure the legality of linking to it so I won't, probably best since I haven't listened to any of it yet either. My favorite tracks are the final boss stuff plus the Hyrule Field night theme.
  • Fishing is horribly horribly addictive. :( Sinking lure ftw.
  • SAY HELLO TO MY FRIEND, MR BALL AND CHAIN *smash* (Seriously... it's about time Link started picking up some of his enemies' weapons. A pity it's so slow though.)
  • I don't care how many polies the PS3/XBox 360 have, Twilight Princess is just purdy (especially when I consider it has to run on GC hardware too!). Although polies of cliffs and such are easy to notice in the field, it really doesn't detract much at all IMO.
  • We finally see the Temple of Time and Sky Temple dungeons, which were planned in some form for OoT supposedly but never made it.

Most annoying things:
  • No sun song, especially when a Poe disappears RIGHT WHEN I'M FINISHING IT OFF
  • Some bits of the last boss fights are more annoying than challenging, IE the parts where you have to press a button in a narrow time frame or you get hurt.
  • I liked Midna better as an imp thing. :(
  • There's a chest in the center of the fountain south of Castle Town I can't get to. Is it just a dummy prop for show or can you actually get to it?!?!
  • There's another chest I can't get to, although this one seems to be "gettable". Out by the entrance to the Lake Hylia spirit lake thing where the you meet the dragon thing and where, after the Lakebed Temple, Zant almost kills Midna . At the entrance on the Lake Hylia side, right above the arch you can see a grapple point but you can't hit it. There are also two statues flanking the arch, with chests and grapple points on top of each, which you apparently reach from the first point. I cannot figure out how to get up there (probably just ruppees anyways.)

The DS browser is alright for light browsing. Not much more though.

Way to go sucking the fun out of things.

No, not for the whole thing, just for those last few pesky sidequests.

2007-03-16, 7:05 AM #12
Oh.

The only time I needed a guide for a Zelda game was when I encountered the Water Temple in Ocarina.

To get that treasure chest, look around for a place to use the SPIKED SKATEBOARD-DRADLE OF DEATH.

Thanks ]-[.

[Edit: Hmm I can't find any tracks near either of the chests I mentioned... :(]

Wow, this browser has Flash (Yay H*R on my TV!)... I thought it wasn't going to, I guess I was thinking of the DS one.

Hmm Opera Wii spellcheck sucks.

I say wired. Only time you should use wireless is for mobile devices... And while you may take your wii over to play with friends, you probably won't be moving it around the house.
If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.

The only reason to use wireless as I see it is if wiring it is too complicated. For me, connecting my computer/Wii to the router downstairs would require too much drilling and complicated wire-running.

I got through twilight princess the first time without even upgrading my wallet. I don't think I played any minigames, either. I should really play through it again and get everything.
Wikissassi sucks.
2007-03-17, 10:47 AM #25
I use wireless, because we already have a wireless router (actually we've got two) and because you've got to buy a LAN adapter first.
But I wonder if the connection is still so slow when it's wired.
Sorry for the lousy German
2007-03-17, 10:58 AM #26
I think that's more an issue of nintendo's servers. It's using 54g, same as my laptop, and my laptop isn't slow.
Wikissassi sucks.
2007-03-17, 12:52 PM #27
I could easily have wired mine (my xbox and xbox 360 both have wired connections), but I went with wireless because I didn't want to buy a wired adapter. If you can use a wireless router anyway (ie. you have a laptop), you might as well go that route.

I just finished the third dungeon on my second play through, and I've already got the big wallet, three bottles, and three bomb bags. Hurray.

That's how far I am on my first play through except I haven't finished the third dungeon and only have two bottles and one bomb bag <_<

I spent like 3 hrs doing the retarded cuckoo thing because I couldn't figure out what the guy meant by "Isle of Riches" even though the thing was RIGHT THERE

Oh really? I played for another hour and now I've got the hawkeye, upgraded my quiver, repaired Eldin bridge, and have fairies in the Ordon spring. So there. The only thing that has ever annoyed me in Zelda games was when you find something, but you can't do it yet because you don't have the right equipment. On the other hand, if you don't upgrade your wallet as early as you can, you leave all sorts of treasure behind. :/

(I should mention that the first time I played through I just blasted from dungeon to dungeon and didn't get any of this stuff. I think I finished with two bottles, one bomb bag, and nothing upgraded.)

Also, I've been told that the rollgoal minigame is really hard, except, it's not. Go figure.

Also, the 'retarded cuckoo thing' is worth a heartpiece, IIRC.
Wikissassi sucks.
2007-03-18, 9:33 PM #33
I've only had this thing 12 hours and it's already the only thing I ever want to see again.

**** WORK, I HAVE WII.

Edit: Dude, and I totally had almost my whole family in here at one point playing wii sports. Thats a huge deal, considering how disfunctional we are.

Rollgoal is annoying. :( Sucked something like 600 rupees out of me. Also the 60 Poe reward is dumb. I've enjoyed the game so much though that I'm playing through it again.

I am currently leeching for Wiinternet, although I'll probably get a wireless router. My dad is getting a new one for my brother (since the Wii crashes our existing one after being connected to it for more than a few minutes) so if that one works I might just order one of the same kind, hehe! :eng101:

I use a Nintendo Wifi USB connector right now.

I haven't bothered figuring out a normal connection set up... :P

Uh why? The wifi is built right into the system.

The trick is to hold the controller flat and twitch it. Learn to flick it just enough to make the ball roll one square.

OMG, you visit the same damn areas over and over and over and over again in Metroid. And you never have enough rockets.

Wii was making my WAP blow up. But I switched to a different encryption thingy and now it works. :P

I still like having the wifi adapter though, it's really handy for when you're on the road. I used it alot for when hotel wifi wasn't working with my DS.

Hint 1:
There is a hookable target on one of the towers city-side of the fountain, start from there.

Hint 2:
Ignore the ropes that wolf-link can crawl across to the gate in the city wall.

Yeah, the Wii works fine with my WRT54G, but my DS doesn't (doesn't have WPA). I'll probably end up getting a nintendo wifi usb thing.
