Here at work (school), I'm essentially in a media blackout except for a few websites that make it past the state filters. So, I turned to the Force.net's podcasts to entertain me before and after school.

Last week, they were reviewing the re-release of Republic Commando, and one of the guys said that RC was the first time you get to see an assassin droid. I emailed 'em and said, no, Mysteries of the Sith had assassin droids in it.

Me and my email got mentioned in the latest forcecast today. Mwahahahahahaha!

Yay for you!

Funtime fact: The assassin droids make a reappearance in Jedi Academy (which came before RC too). But no one seems to care about that game. :v:

Well, wouldn't that one droid bounty hunter in Shadows of the Empire count as an assassin droid? :P

Come to think of it, yeah. Although you can debate the difference between "bounty hunters" and "assassins".

Woot I win : IG-88 was an assassin droid.

Originally posted by http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/IG-88:
IG-88 was an assassin droid line designed by Holowan Laboratories. The IG-88 line was a derivative of the IG-100 MagnaGuard droids used as bodyguards by General Grievous and the IG Lancer Droids used by Durge during the Clone Wars. IG-88 later became one of the Galaxy's most infamous bounty hunters.

Rerelease of Republic Commando?
2007-03-16, 1:11 PM #12
Well, technically, they were right, as RC takes place BEFORE MOTS.

It depends on how you look at it, I guess.

He says he meant to say it was the first time Grevious' bodyguard droids appeared in a game, and didn't mean to say assassin droids.

I'm fairly sure KOTOR was before everything.
nope.
2007-03-17, 9:04 AM #19
WAYYYY. Before.
Like several thousand years i believe.
2007-03-17, 9:07 AM #20
Yeah.. by Star Wars timeline.

However, Chewbubba was talking about the real years when these games were released. And MotS (1998) was before RC (2005)... and SotE before MotS (1997).

i have been searching all over the web trying to find agroup of star wars nerds who knew enough about the movies that i would feel confident they could answer my question. i was recently watching a marathon of all six episodes and it was pointed out to me that the aliens, including Yoda Chewbaca and all of them, were made by Jim Hensen in the older episodes. i was mildy astonished but i thought i could remember hearing something similar to that when i was younger and life went on as normal.

Later, as we got to the finally with Return of the Jedi, i was *****ing about how the additional scenes screwed up the whole Jaba the Hut part when i saw Luke fighting the Rancor and i wondered if it too was made by Jim Hensen. this would seem like a fairly small question that would not typically bother a person, but i tend to get annoyed about dumb things and it has grown a bit on my mind. That and the fact that after the dvd turned out to be a piece of scratched up garbage and wouldn't play any further than half way through the last film the only thing for me to watch now is "Little Man" about a midget who pretends to be a baby. obviously i would much rather be on the computer talking about star wars, and the low quality of the dvd player in a ps2 than watching that. god i wish i owned a real dvd player. :(

And so began the tedious and psuedofulfilling tale of the great Google adventure which eventually led me here, this green transparent forum that holds promises of answers to a question i got bored of asking the cat. it knows NOTHING of Star Wars OR Han Solo.

and so i find myself facing yet another object in my appartment that doesn't speak english asking it a question about Star Wars. was the Rancor in episode VI made by the same man who made kermit the frog? or was that a moster Lucas thought he would leave in the hands of somebody who wouldn't have to stick them ups its *** to make it talk? it just seems pretty unlikely to me.

Based on the original maquette, Industrial Light & Magic first sought to create the rancor as a person in a creature suit. After viewing some video tests, the end results weren't satisfactory: it looked too much like a man in a rancor costume.

Loved that, did they really think a man in a costume would look much more than a man in a costume? :D

I'm sorry but come on, if it's a man in a costume your going to be able to tell it's Human shaped if nothing else.

But men(plural) in a costume, and we get Jabba the Hutt!

So, wtf, this guy finds us on google and registers just to ask us if the rancor was designed by Hensen?

For that matter, since when is this a Star Wars website?
