I don't condone green beer, but what else can you post a picture of on St. Patrick's Day? Anyway, post your mock-Irish festivities, stories of holidays gone by, and drink recipies involving Baileys, Jameson, or Guinness here.

Seriously, St. Patrick's Day is my favorite holiday. Myself and a whole bunch of friends are going down to Patrick O'Ryan's tonight at like 5:00 PM and we plan to be there until close at 2:00 AM. We did the same last year, they have live Irish bands and everything, great time.

After the bar my best friend and I are going back to my place, and if we're still conscious watch The Boondock Saints or something.

This will actually be the first St. Patrick's Day I've been able to celebrate properly, so I'm stoked. The holiday has always been on my school's spring break, which means I'm always at home with the parents, but this year I'm a) finally 21 and b) in Europe, where it doesn't matter if I'm 21. I promised one of my kollegium neighbors I'd party with her and her friends here at about eight tonight, but after that it's downtown to The Globe Irish Pub where there will be live music and, if the bartender knows his business, Irish car bombs.

What's the significance of St Patrick's day in the US?
nope.
2007-03-17, 9:33 AM #5
From what I hear most Irish don't even care about St. Patrick's Day, much like most Mexicans do not give a damn about Cinco de Mayo.

Pretty much. We Americans love it because we can wear green and drink beer and pretend we're not Americans. That goes double for Americans who have Irish "heritage" but are actually no more Irish than Jacques Chirac.

Having my first Guiness today. I hear nothing but good things about it.
"Jayne, this is something the Captain has to do for himself"

"N-No it's not!"

"Oh."

Horrible aftertaste.

And you're right, they irish don't care that much.
nope.

Who doesn't like gold, beer, and little red headed leprechauns that give you cereal, all while having a parade over something your town knows little about?

I tried some Guinness last night. It was good!

Also I have a somewhat red beard so I can pretend to be Irish. My heritage is actually mostly Scottish though.

I agree :).

It might be St. Patricks Day but the Irish back in the native land have little to celebrate in sports. Got stuffed at Chelthenham and lost the Six Nations rugby. But ah well but all its an excuse to have a party, its nice that the Irish have a day to celebrate their roots and pride :)

If you're Irish or part Irish have a drink on me!
*If I could I would honest* :)

Drinking some Killian's right now. Going to a toga party later. Wearing a green toga. I hope I'm the only one with green. I need to look up how to make a toga from a bed sheet. I'll do that now.

Wrap around body, tie over shoulder. Togas are really, really hard to make, you know.
Wikissassi sucks.

Not at all likely.

The report:

This St. Patrick's Day was enjoyable, but not particularly memorable. A beer at the kollegium, ran into two guys I knew at the pub and had a couple of pints with them, came back, had a tequila and cola and hung out with my Danish friends for a bit, and here I am.

Had my first Guinness that wasn't part of an Irish car bomb tonight, and really enjoyed it. I don't even really like beer, but Guinness is good stuff as far as I'm concerned. Much less bitter than I'd expected.

Really wanted to have a car bomb at some point tonight, but unfortunately I went to what must be the world's most expensive Irish pub, so it would have cost far too much.

Ah well. At least when I wake up tomorrow at 6:30 so I can be on a bus to Luxembourg by 8:00, I won't be cursing my existence.

I guess the lack of pants and beer gives you something to do with the hours of waiting to get from place to place or watch space pebbles.

Pshh, in Goonfleet there's never a boring moment.

Also I rather like Guiness; it has somthing of a molasses taste to it. It's a very heavy beer though.

I'm not usually in to rugby, but I made an effort to understand what was going on in the six nations yesterday. was a shame, would have been an insane atmosphere if they'd won.

that is so tremendously depressing. thanks

aaaaaaaaanyway. I feel like my head may fall off at any moment. I can't quite work out if I'm still drunk or if it's all hangover. went to my local, which was pretty raucous when I arrived at 4.30 in the afternoon and ended up insane by the time I left at 3 am.
There was a live band of course, and irish dancing which the daughter of a friend of mine performed in. after that it all got very hazy. I remember dancing, and stumbling around alot. and hearing The Fields of Athenry repeatedly. had a couple of pints of guinness (cos you have to), and a ridiculous amount of vodka. got to bed at about 6.30 am

How does one join this goonfleet?

I'd be willing to play this game if I could participate on GALACTIC CONQUEST on a daily basis.

I went to a friend's 18th and had a bunch of non-irish related drinks.

Red Aftershock is fun.
nope.
