It's just a popularity contest.

I doubt that was really made by the Obama team, cool nonetheless. Although I think another politician is more appropriately suited on that "big brother" screen.

They deny making it and I wouldn't think that they did anyway. Not sure who would be better suited as "big brother". At least not as possible candidates go.

No, I was just referring to our current incumbent.

Oh. It's kind of hard for me to picture Republicans or conservatives in a Big Brother role. Seem more of an extreme left, socialized sort of thing to me.

Well, in Nineteen Eighty-Four (which popularized the concept of "big brother") the government is socialist, so that reinforces your train of thought a bit. However, it's really a perversion of socialism, it isn't anywhere close to the ideals.

I'm still trying to decide whether money is a more important factor than popularity. Supposing Clinton raises more funds for her campaign than Obama, it may very well come to popularity vs. wealth for the Democratic candidate.

If money were the determining factor, Ros Perot would have been president instead of Clinton.

But when's the last time it didn't take millions of dollars to become president? 1776?

Haha, when I posted I wasn't able to view the video because of where I was. People actually thought that could have been made by the Obama team? It has "80s" written all over it.

Yeah, Bush and friends aren't exactly the types who would rape your civil rights or privacy in the name of national security. :downs:

It has 1984 written all over it, actually. I don't think anybody thinks that came from the Obama team. It's still a great ad for him though.

Well, that's the rhetoric. I know some believe they are but I don't. I just don't see how most of what people believe are "civil rights" actually are.

Free speech zones have been imposed during Bush's presidency. Protestors are relegated to these zones, often away from media coverage, while supporters are allowed to be right up there next to the president. Sure, we still have the right to protest, but that right has been eroded slightly. I wouldn't say Bush has been a disaster for civil rights, but here and there he has slowly dimmed many of them.

He has taken a lot of power that shouldn't be his; he's overstepped his executive authority in many instances.

It's pretty simple. Economically, the liberals are the big brother. "Give your money to us," they say, "because only the state should have the privilige of economic freedom."

Republicans are the big brothers of makin' sure you live your life the way they want you to. No gay marryin', no excessive free speech and certainly no abortion.

Although after Bush's term, I'm not sure just which party believes in small government anymore. I'm going to vote Democrat in '08 so that a few spending bills might have a chance of getting shot down. ;)

LOL we can all obviously see how Bush critics get very limited air time! Ha Ha Ha!

This makes sense if you're talking about spending on things you don't want but if you are talking about spending in general the Democrats are the last ones to vote for (unless you include un-electable third parties).

Not really. I'm not sure it is ideal but better than a "more than two party" system. With more than a two party system you always end up with some one winning that a minority of voters supported. Similar to how Bill Clinton won two terms in the US.

Interesting that it has now been proven the ad was made by somebody connected to the campaign. I don't see why the campaign is distancing themselves from it. It's a great commercial.
