The PS3 is launching at midnight tonight in Aussieland, yay!

I have a console, extra controller, Resistance, and Motorstorm on pre-order. Anyone else been hanging out for Sony-style HD gaming?

Also for those who have PS3s, any other launch games worth a look? I've been thinking about Virtua Tennis 3 or that F1 game.

I just got a wii.

It seemed like a better buy as it has a much higher price to fun ratio.

The only game I really want to try for PS3 is motorstorm.

I'll wait about 3 years until they release a slimline version for a fraction of the price which should be about the same time some games come out.

The F1 demo kinda sucked, and... a tennis game?

Resistence is fun single player and the multiplayer is massive. So far I've mostly just been using my PS3 to buy used PS2 games that I never got a chance to play. There's quite a few games I'm looking forward to though, and the "Home" thing looks pretty sweet.

I saw one in Virgin the other day, but it was playing what I assume to F1 '06 since Schumacher was still in it.

Personally I want to know what happened with all the no-backwards-compatible thing.

I lol'ed at the lack of PS2 backwards compatibility on European PS3s.

It's like Sony WANTS to fail.

I'm with CM. I got my PS3 before they ripped off Europe, but Sony made a bad move there.

For me, I played Def Jam Icon, Resistance, COD3, Need for Speed: Carbon, and that one car game where you blow up other cars with guns, forgot the title atm.

All of them awesome on HDTV clarity, especially resistance, Need for Speed, and Icon.

We've got one... NFS Carbon is pretty slick, but the new SixAxis kills my hands. Why did they have to make the triggers so "spongy"? Furthermore, the lack of force feedback ruins the console on two fronts for me. The first being that in many games, I've grown WAY too accustomed to feeling the controller move when things are happening on screen (like just before I lose control of a vehicle in NFS) and the second being that the controller feels "fake". Because there's no weight to it. It's still small (because Sony is :downs: and thinks that people still like the PS controller design) and it hurts to use for any extended play.

I'll probably wait until the price comes down before I look at any of the new consoles. They look pretty nifty, but I'm not a big fan of having to pay $200 more than our US or Asian counterparts. I know it takes more money to get the consoles out to such far flung places as Australia and the UK ;), but it still feels like a bit of a rip off, especially since they've gimped the PS3 somewhat.

Also, I only just bought a SNES off ebay, so I tend to be a little behind the curve.

I played THP8 on a ps3 for a short while before the girl's brother sold the system. I didn't mind the controller, and I've always liked the PSX controller. Reminds me of SNES.

Hey Virtua Tennis 2 on Dreamcast is one of the best sports games of all time! We still play that 4-player. Good times.

Before I got my 360 my Mega Drive was the primary gaming machine in my house. The only reason it's under the bed now is that I don't have room for two consoles side by side in my teeny tiny house :)

every walmart i've been to has at least 3 or 4 60gigs, and up to twice as many 20gigs. i'm trying like hell to find a damn wii for my girlfriend's birthday, but i cannot obtain one. meanwhile, my 360 sexes me well.

I like Motorstorm.

Cant beleive the console only ships with AV cables! They're really pushing the whole HD gaming angle and the thing doesnt even come with the component cables, let alone HDMI. Big dissapointment there.

If you tend to wait that long for the price to come down, you won't be playing the PS3 for a loooong time :P

That's ok, I'm a patient fellow. Plus I'm not real keen on the internet connectivity and "patchability" of the newer consoles. That kind of kills off the major attraction of a console for me.

That it does. Not many folks around here share the same opinion, but whenever I get a chance I sneak a demo run at work. I'd rather get a 360 though, it's online service seems more suited to me. That, and the friends that have next-gen have 360s, and play on Live all the time.

i'm not gonna buy one until its cheaper and i have a big nice tellybox.

tis a shame about backwards compatibility though, thats kinda putting me off a little since i have a load of awesome PS1/2 games.

They made Devil May Cry 4 not exclusive anymore; it's coming to Xbox 360. Bunch of other games, too, but I don't really care for them. I wonder if Konami does the same with MGS4. That'd pretty much murder the PS3.

Wasn't it predicted that exclusives would stop being exclusive due to the massive development costs for the new systems? It costs so much to develop now (and with the consoles still in a small percentage of the population) - multiplatform = better chance of meeting costs

Yeah, but Devil May Cry 4 was never really hinted at that it was going to released on the X-Box 360. Furthermore, Ace Combat 6 is now going to be released for the X-Box 360 too. The annoucement was a big surprise and it came right no the week of the European and Aussie launch too. Moreover, X-Box 360 now has a rumor that it's releasing some $479 version of its console with a 120 GB hard drive and a HDMI output. Oh and suddenly Final Fantasy XII now has exclusivity issues. It's a bad week for Sony...
