It's not a matter of training. The kid can still be trained not to wander. But it takes some time to LEARN that, and during that time the kid can really get itself into trouble.

Of course, the father is right there. He could easily take the job of watching one kid.

My son doesn't like to hold my hand. He just walks around. I follow him wherever he goes though.
