Toilet Paper - Up or Down?

When using toilet paper, do you prefer your roll to pull from the top or from the bottom. In my casa, I prefer the over the top method, as I find that pulling from the bottom tends to tear the perforated squares sooner than I'd like.

I don't know. I just use it.


When throwing, however, I think I prefer the bottom method.

i live with french people and rat bastards so i always carry my own paper to the toilet and it never goes on the rack...

IF I have toilet paper, and thats a pretty big IF, I'm not going to care one wink which way it's hung.

The better question is, would you risk using kleenex if you ran out of toilet paper?

For some reason ever since seeing the episode of the Simpson where Bart, Maggie and Lisa get taken into care (and more to the point, when listing the reasons why the social workers take the kids the woman says "Toilet paper hung in incorrect overhand fashion") I've hung my paper underhand.

Random I know, but meh.

He's right. The friction of the paper against the bottom of the roll allows for easier tearing. When on the top, you need to use two hands to tear the paper, else you risk pulling too much paper off, which is both annoying an uneconomical.

Also, scrunching is better than folding from a physics standpoint. It provides higher surface area for more efficient wiping, and is thus more economical as well.

Or, the physics doesn't matter, since you still have to use two hands regardless of how it's hung. :gonk:

The toilet paper happens to be on one of those hinge bracket things and pull the roll down and take it from the bottom. I suppose thats how its done. Intresting thread and honestly i've never noticed :)

There was something on the history channel last night about the origin of toilet paper and the history of bathroom facilities in general. Until about the 17th century people used their hands. :gonk:
