i recently purchased an ati x1300pro with 256mb ram. windows/directx tells me it has 512mb ram. anyone know of this being a problem with directx or did i get more ram than i paid for?

You should send it back and demand a new one with only half the memory... >_>

i went back to the store where i bought it and talked to the owner. he said most people don't come back and complain when they get more than they paid for. ha!!
i wanted to know if anyone else had mentioned it to him.

I've seen companies modify their cards so like even if they only have 256mb of ram they say 512mb just so they can sell it at a higher price and pretend.
I haven't seen much of that since the GeforceMX days when there were a ton of fake 64mb cards that were actually 32mb.

Uhhh then the driver would crash when it tried to access the 257th MB or above. :psyduck:

its shared memory with the RAM in your computer
my 7300GS does it too, and it bothered me till i read it in the manual.

Does anyone know why my 9800 is recognized as a 9800 pro? It has the 9800 clock speeds. It's recognized under Windows and Linux as a pro.

My Radeon 9600 All In Wonder is read as a NVidia 5600.
