Well i was playing ps2 i heard my computer give the "Beep" that is heard when it starts up, BUt the thing is... Is that i never turned it off! It just randomly shut itself off and then on!

What the hell happened? The playstation was fine so it couldn't have been a brownout.

And to top it off it wouldn't detect my HDD til i shut ut off again.

Does it really matter?

Was it worth a thread?

I'm actually kind of surprised this doesn't have a poll on it.

I don't understand the thread title.

Plus, what is a "brownout"? Does your PS2 have a bad case of diarrhea?

Brownout - "A drop in voltage in an electrical power supply, so named because it typically causes lights to dim, as distinguished from a blackout, which is a total power failure or power outage."

Both of you need to learn how to use the internet to look things up.

It couldn't have been a brownout because your TV and the PS2 your understimulated mind doesn't need would have also shut down.

You have a virus. Delete Windows.

Actually Rob, PCs are far more susceptible to brownouts than, say, a PS2 or a TV would be.

So thus, it is possible there was one small enough to reset the PC but not the other devices.

Regardless, there's NUMEROUS reasons why this would occur, including:

A. Brownouts
B. Windows Updates
C. Some other program or virus doing it.
D. Bad power supply
E. Bad motherboard
F. Windows bluescreened and auto-rebooted
G. Something overheated (although that would usually cause a bluescreen)

Not unnecessarily. There can be very quick unnoticeable power sags that will shut off sensitive PCs, but leave everything else on. The degree of sensitivity to brownout will vary from computer to computer.

It depends on whether your pc needs all of the power the supply gives it. If you've got a 500w psu running a pc that only needs 300w, a brownout probably won't restart it... but a 500w psu running a 475w pc, a brownout will definately reboot your machine. We have them all the time here.

My computer used to do go into sleep mode randomly and then 'wake up' after a few minutes. It could just be that.
My blawgh.

You need to turn your computer off more.
