With a pen-like stylus and a “physics-enabled” virtual workspace prototyped by BumpTop, you can organize electronic files into piles just like you do on your real desktop. I’m not sure whether this shows radical innovation or utter insanity; either way, it’s impressive.

This is stupid. Is it a joke? It's very stupid.

Thats either the most awesome thing I've ever seen, or the dumbest thing I've ever seen.

I honestly cannot decide.

It's old. I don't think it's a good idea at all.
2007-04-01, 1:20 PM #5
I don't like it :\

I hope someone will make an add-on "Virtual Flamethrower" for this...

Probably the 30th time it's been posted here.

While it may be useless, it's implementation and interface is really slick.

Except who says "lassoo?" It's just "lasso."

Can't you just save or place random files on your hard drive to be "messy"?

I mean isn't the point of having a messy desk to not know where you last put it and later on struggle to find it?

IF wii ever has an advanced operating system, then it needs this.

The point isn't to be messy. The point is intuitive organization.

My desktop is already messy, so using it wouldn't really change anything aside from providing excessive Aero-like visualization.

Hahaha, the next time someone calls my bedroom a mess I'm going to tell them it's "Intuitive Organization."

my real desktop is much neater than my virtual desktop because my virtual desktop is where I save everything I download

If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.

WWD's posting of this, though, happens to have been marked to me as being posted on the 30th, just yesterday...

Even though the thing is old, perhaps they thought they were being clever in posting it. Oh well.

Personally, though, I like how my desktop is fine. On the other hand, I agree that if the Wii winds up having the capability for a desktop-like interface, (the current "channels" menu could use some work...) I bet they could sell this feature for $5US a pop, and get ANOTHER few million easy. I could imagine just about anyone messing around with this for hours. :P

Seriously.

You could build wii-file forts.

I could see this as useful for people who have a lot of difficulty with computers. It really is pretty intuitive, even more so with a tablet and pen. It would make more sense to people than the tree structure of a hard drive.

I showed this to someone and they mentioned using the multi-touch interface from TED.
