Quick Photoshop Question

I was trying to batch resize some photos using photoshop CS2 (and this tutorial http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ttoEQJ4SqCk). I get an error that says "Could not complete your request because a JPEG marker segment length is too short (the file may be truncated or incomplete)." but I have no such problems when doing the exact same thing manually.

I don't know about Photoshop, but Irfanview is handy for doing stuff like that. There may be a problem with Photoshop not loading the file the same way for a batch as for doing something manually.

I actually tried irfanveiw already and the images turned out to be of really terrible quality (even with the jpeg quality set to best).

Resizing guarantees horrible quality unless you know exactly what you're doing and are doing it on purpose.

Resampling gives you much better quality.

Yeah here's a comparison. Top is Photoshop CS2 bottom is irfanview.

Wait, so what is the difference between resizing and resampling?

Edit: Never mind I checked it out on google. Also I found a use resample function checkbox in irfanview.

Use the lanczos filter when you resize. Failing that, bicubic usually works just as fine. Especially when going smaller. In fact I'm unsure if there is a visible difference.

Yeah, going bigger to smaller should never cause any serious quality loss (except for detail, obviously).
