My assignment statement:

topPtr = &tmpPtr;

should have been:

*topPtr = tmpPtr;

Always remember that, in C, declaration mirrors use. It's just like algebra.

int *foo = bar.

bar == *foo.

&bar == foo.


Give it some time and it'll come so naturally to you that you'll be basically useless in any other language. :suicide:
