Stargate Atlantis

I haven't seen anything posted about it yet, so I'm going to go ahead and start.

So what is everyone's thoughts on it? I know for a fact there are some resident stargate fans here, surely you guys have some input.

Me? I never really got into the previous series. I caught an episode every now and then, but they never really grabbed my attention. Atlantis has me intrigued right now, if nothing else. I'm probably missing parts of a major backstory having not seen but maybe 10 of the other series' episodes, but I still thought it was a pretty decent show. I think I'm going to run a tape for the episode next Friday.

So yeah, discuss.

Whens it on?
And
Does it have Richard Dean Anderson in it?
I cant imagine Stargate without him [http://forums.massassi.net/html/frown.gif]

Has it already aired? I must have missed it. No, it doesn't have Anderson in it, but supposedly SG-1 is still going(at least for season 8), and Atlantis is parallel to it. I have to say, I like the idea better than splitting up the SG-1 team, like they were originally planning to do.

They did a more or less "joint" episode last night for two hours with the casts from both shows. The next episode of Atlantis is supposed to air Friday at 10ish EST. Right after SG-1 if I heard the Sci-Fi announcer right.

O'Neal isn't in it, but the major in Atlantis (I forget the guy's name) has a very similar personality. I think I'd have to safely say that if it wasn't for his character, the entire show would've been quite boring, and I would've turned it off.

Of course it will suck. The question is, will the suckage be to a lesser degree than anticipated, and will it prevent you from watching it?

Ive been a fan of the SG1 since I saw the movie. The day it hit theatres. Its an excellent show with a well rounded cast. Weve all come to know them, and half-way expect their actions. The problem with the new Stargate team is simple; its not SG1. Its not the team weve come to know and love over all these years.

On the other hand, its an intriguing plot, and I suspect it may be a good show in its own right. Time will tell.

I've been a big fan of Stargate since Season 2, back when they actually had good storylines. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/frown.gif]

I was afraid of what the new SG team would be like. I was afraid it would be a younger more exciting group of people and that would spoil the essence of Stargate, I was very happy to see a better set of people and the Shepperd character seems interesting so far.

Stargate atlantis was awesome! I have to admit, i havn't watched much of the last 2 seasons of stargate due to work and stuff, but this new series gives me a chance to make a fresh start at the beginning of a show. Atlantis looks like its going to be good.

That was the funnist one there was.
First Daniel starts teaching them, then they start teaching Daniel.. then O'neal is complaining about how he starts the time loop and then Teal'c (sp?) talks about his with the door getting opened into his face.
Then when they start stuffing around Teal'c bashes the guy who does it rofl

I find it rather interesting so many people missed it. I expected you guys would've seen it.

I never thought the movie was that good. It was decent, but not great in my opinion. From what I've seen of SG-1, it looked a LOT better than the movie ever was. Right now I think GBK has it right. It looks good so far, but it'll probably be a few weeks before anyone can really judge how good or bad it is.

Atlantis missed the mark of SG-1.

It's too serious. It's too sci-fi.

Some of the prime attractions of SG-1 is that it takes place in a realistic military complex with everything military except the stargate. It takes place with a military team and a military general.

But more primarily, Stargate SG-1 is very often quite funny. Atlantis from what I have seen, isn't.

These two things really hurt the series, in my opinion, but it's possible they could fix them both (albeit unlikely).

i dont know what youre talking about Osiris, atlantis was pretty funny. and if you recall, stargate in its first couple of seasons wasnt that funny either because the actors are still trying to get comfortable with the character. i think the guy who plays the major sheppard guy was really good and quite frankly, a lotlike a less impulsive jack which makes it have the stargate feel. but i like the fact that they didnt totally just rip of Jack's character.
i mean that whole puddle jumper thing..that was pretty funny [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif]

and for you canadians who watch stargate..if ayn of you do...do you remember the guy named RAINBOW on much music?? with the giant fro?? hes the black guy! :P i love how most of their cast is canadian because they film here [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif]

I just saw it 5 minutes ago. I liked it, my favorite character is that Irish guy. Though it does seem a bit too sci-fy for my tastes.

Yeah, the irish guy was pretty good.

"How come I don't get women like that."
"You don't get out enough."
"I'm in another galaxy. How much more 'out' can you get?"

I think Sheppard would have to be my favorite right now.

I watxched the show a few years ago (when it was still on network tv, and it was slotted on saturday afternoons locally) , but then i missed about half a season. I couldn't figure out what was going on after that.

my 2 favorite episodes are as follows
Urgo
Fraiser: "Okay, so what does he look like?"
O'Neill: "A famous tenor."

Urgo: "What is this?"
Carter: "It's a defibrillator."
Urgo: "Ah, interesting. Thank you. Is it...defibrillating now?"
Carter: "He, ah, it seems to crave new experiences." Turns to Urgo. "You use the paddles to administer an electric shock to people whose hearts are beating irregularly."
Urgo: "Ah, and then they feel better? Does it feel good?" Carter shakes her head. "Does it hurt?" Carter nods. "Woo! It hurts?!"
Daniel: "I would think so."
Urgo: "Let's try it!"
Daniel: "No, I don't...think so."
Urgo: "Why not? It's not going to kill you is it? Or is it?"

Carter: "I was...talking to Urgo, Sir."
Hammond: "I see."
Carter: "Oh, I wish you did."

Hammond: "Doctor, are we entirely sure that the members of SG-1 are...what's the word?"
Fraiser: "Sane?"
Hammond: "That's the one."

The Other Guys:
Teal'c: I believe the Canucks of Vancouver are superior warriors.

Coombs: Oh, please... huh? They're just tired of your butt-snorkelling. So tell me how you finally defeated Apophis, Colonel O'Neill... Oh, Major Carter, I based my doctoral thesis on your amazing wormhole stability theories...
Felger: Bite me, Coombs! At least my heroes exist. If this was a 'Trek convention, you'd be all dressed up like a Klingon...
Coombs: Vulcan, Felger, Vulcan! And I don't know how you can call yourself a scientist and not worship at the alter of Roddenberry...
Felger: Oooh, how we gonna get outta this one, Captain? Well, I don't know... something to do with the tachyon emitter?"

Felger: That's right... I have Coombs with me.
Coombs: Hi.
Jack: Why look everybody... he's got Coombs with him.

O'Neill: You ended that sentence with a preposition, bastard.

I forgot what episode, but that was pretty funny.
