Read Only Settings Issue
2007-04-22, 10:03 PM #1
For the past few days none of the settings stay on my HDD-style MP3 player.
This prompts me to look and see if Read Only is selected on certain folders on the music machine in Windows.

they are.

i turn them off.
hit apply.

check the folder a minute or so later...

Read only? yep.

WTFBBQ?
anyone know anyway to not have this issue happen? its really bothersome

Use Process Monitor (Google it) to see if a program on your PC is resetting the read-only flags. If not it's the device itself.

Move all the files from the mp3 player to your hard drive, then change the settings and turn of read only, and then save them back to your player.

Option number 2: move everything off and format the whole drive.

I'm having the same problem. I have Win7 x64. The folder keeps reverting to read-only. I've taken all the security precautions, and I already have it set to take ownership.
So far, none of the posters of this same problem have confirmed that any of the solutions offered by Massassi have worked. They didn't work in my case. I couldn't move all of the files off of my 1TB drive even if I wanted to. I could set the entire drive to read-only and then turn it off again, which would also affect files that should not be affected.
Might not be a problem, since the folder has the grayed out box, rather than a check mark:
