Which Dark Forces series was the hardest?
2007-04-23, 6:22 PM #1
On a side note, I really grown fond of these two smilies for whatever reason.

:hist101: :suicide:

(EDIT: Now that I think about it, is Jedi Academy part of the DF series?)

DF is the only one I havent gotten past lvl 3 on. But then I havent even tried since 1998.

the last level of MotS was the toughest for me.

Dude, DF. Definitely.

The last level was freaking impossible (at least it was when I played it last, about 2000)

Dark Forces was impossible at times.

I think at one point you had to punch a kell dragon to death. And I think I never found out how to do the Imperial Detention Centre.
Hey, Blue? I'm loving the things you do. From the very first time, the fight you fight for will always be mine.

Definetely DF. That game was just class. :]
DO NOT WANT.

DF, because it came out during the era where non-sensual level and puzzle design was consider the norm.

You are all nuts. The last two level of MotS are ****ing IMPOSSIBLE.

All those saber wielding statues and vornskrs, and JK's saber combat SUCKS.

JO and JA were both pretty easy though.
Wikissassi sucks.
2007-04-23, 6:48 PM #9
Jedi Outcast on the Gamecube was tough for me. Even after playing all of these games, it took me the longest to beat JO actually trying.

DF was really hard, but I'm not sure if that was just because I was like 9 years old and it was one of the first FPS I had ever played. Not to mention the fact that I had to play on a 386 which basically made the game a slideshow.

I also remember getting lost a lot, I'm not sure if that was just because I was young and sucked at video games, or if the maps were really confusing.
2007-04-23, 7:25 PM #12
I didn't really think any of them were hard.

DF, because I swear the Detention Center had a major glitch in it that would prevent me from beating the level. Game would constantly freak me out with those phase 1 dark troopers

Lately, JK. I keep rushing through it too fast all cocky-like then I fall off a cliff or something without saving.

Dark Forces, normally. Plus, why is JA on the list? It's not part of the Dark Forces / Jedi Knight franchise (Or at least it shouldn't be)

Dark Forces.

It's not really part of that series. The DF series is about Kyle Katarn. Jedi Academy is about one of his students. That's just my opinion, though. I suppose you could argue both ways.

I don't remember that being in DF. I remember it in JK though, probably MotS.

It was in DF. You had your saber to fight one in JK.

I thought MotS was hardest though. Except for the end fight of course. Some of those levels, especially the last ones, in MotS were freakin' impossible.
Life is beautiful.
2007-04-23, 8:12 PM #19
You had to saber fight several in JK. But you could just bypass them easy.
MoTS was easy! I beat that game back in 98!

It was the start of the Jabba's Palace level in Dark Forces.

Yep. I remember too. Didn't you fight Fett at the end of that level?
woot!
2007-04-23, 8:35 PM #23
No. Fett was in the next level (level 11), imperial city.

That reminds me, Fett was insanely hard in Shadows of the Empire for N64. Should have added that to the list, but it's not exactly DF related.

MotS definitely took the most of me to finally finish (I finally accomplished this a few months ago, as did my roommate, yay! :D)

Back years ago, it took me forever to figure out the second level where you had to make the turret shoot the explosive barrels to shut down that force field. I played through that level over and over and over to that point, not knowing what I had missed (which was, in a sense, nothing really). I think I actually found out how to do that part by accident.

Then the swamp level and forward stopped me again when I tried to play through the game again during high school.

JK and JO are probably about tied for how hard they were for me to complete -- granted, the two games share few common super hardships, they have their own hard points and easier points.

Dark Forces just scared me when I was younger. I just couldn't handle Anoat City. Last year I played through DF though, and it wasn't too bad save for those dianogas (still frigging scare me when they pop up in my face like they always do). I didn't have too much trouble with the Kell Dragon -- holding the Run key and keeping out of corners did the trick for me (this "run" key is very much an understatement). I probably have to rank DF higher difficulty than JK and JO though. Oh, and the control in DF is terrible without proper WASD+Mouse, a difficulty in itself... otherwise I'd probably play DF a little more often.

Haven't played JA yet, but sooner or later I'll pick up a copy.

So for me, difficulty ranking (from most to least difficult):
MotS, DF, JK/JO
May the mass times acceleration be with you.

DF scared the **** out of me when I was younger too. Dianogas and the sewers in general were scary, as were dark troopers (but especially phase 1 dark troopers). My favorite level is definitely level 4. It's probably my favorite level of all time in any game.

The final battle in JO was a bit of a disappointment. Maybe it was just a glitch, but it only took me 2-3 swings with the saber to kill the giant talking dinosaur.

That battle is pretty tough on the higher difficulty setting..

Dark Forces.

The Detention Center level still haunts me. Grr.

In JA, if you went dark side, you basically had to mow down both light and dark jedi. That got both tedious and trying sometimes. There was this one jedi with a staff that took me a while to beat down.

I think JK was the hardest of them all though. I got lost easy in the very large areas first go around. :( Never played DF or MotS.
Code to the left of him, code to the right of him, code in front of him compil'd and thundered. Programm'd at with shot and $SHELL. Boldly he typed and well. Into the jaws of C. Into the mouth of PERL. Debug'd the 0x258.

To this day, I have not gotten through Anoat City in DF. And I probably never will now because thanks to today's games, I've got an "OMG need strafe keys!" mindset that I'll never get rid of.

A) Use seekers on Fett.
B) Stand on the angled edge of the hole in the middle and the Slave I will just sit there shooting to either side of you and you can pound it to death with your weakest weapon.

Now, that entire huge level getting to Fett can be a problem sometimes. It's definitely the hardest in the game.
Wikissassi sucks.

MotS. It's the only one I never finished. Mostly because it was so dark and Mysterious that I was almost scared to play it O_o

I still haven't beaten Dark Forces or MotS. MotS because of the last levels and DF because I would always get lost and confused. I think on my most recent play through DF I was doing pretty well. (I had to use walkthroughs once or twice. :ninja:)

DF was pretty hard at times, and it took me awhile to beat Jerec in JK. The only hard part for me in JO was the dude in the golden, shielded suit.

So yeah, I guess DF was the hardest.

I would say DF as well.

I remember beating MotS on hard with no cheats. Was a pain on those last levels, but once I did it I was so happy (I was young).

All this discussion kind of makes me crave loading them up and playing again.
