"Thrust-vectoring technology" is definitely not new. The SU-30 has been in service for over 10 years now, and the F-22 uses thrust-vectoring as well, as does the Harrier (although it uses it differently, for VTOL and not manuevaribility).

Not exactly. The Harrier redirects engine thrust downward to take off and land vertically, or in extremely short distances. The thrust vectoring found on aircraft like the Su 30/35/45 use it to achieve extreme maneuverability.

SU 30 also has the canard fins which helps with some of the fancy aerobatics.

Coming out of a loop going backwards was a pretty good trick. Some of that stuff was really cool, but it must burn fuel like crazy.

I was just thinking the pilot must be one that doesn't fear for his life. Can't imagine those kind of tricks with very little velocity are the safest ones, no matter the technology.
