older NES games?

ahar! A Parody thread! Or is it?

I got a NES for christmas (wow! I rule all you X-Box lamers!) and it comes with all three Mario games (as well as duckhunt! wewt).

I was wondering: does anyone here know about some totally INSANE NES games that havn't really established themselves as Classics, but still are? I've heard there are 700+ NES games. Of those, I'm sure there are tons of games which people are only deciding now are totally kickin'.

So.. any suggestions?

I believe there is somewhere around 2500 NES titles, around 700 of which were widely known.

I'd recommend. Metroid 1 & 2. Both very good games. Also kirby.

When the NES first came out, I was an addict. I know any game out there for the NES. My favorites (which I still play) include:
  • Friday The 13th - I love this game. Dunno why... [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]
  • G.I.Joe - The first one. And I still haven't finished it.
  • Super Mario 3 - Simple brainless fun.
  • The Dragon Warrior series - A decent RPG series.
  • Mike Tyson's Punchout - A really good boxing game for it's time.
  • Wizard's Legacy - An incredibly well-thought out adventure game.
  • The two Zelda games - Classics even in it's debut.
  • So many more...

All good suggestions.

But don't forget Rampage. Nothing beats exploiting the bug in two player that allows the player on the right side to reign supreme in punching matches. haha, good times.

Legend of Zelda, Excite Bike, Ninja Turtle Games. Really, Super Mario Bros. 3 and Legend of Zelda is all that is needed.

Zelda 1 & 2
Megaman's 2, 4, 5, and 6 (not necessarily ranked in that order)
Mario 2 & 3

Personally I would just download the ROMs but since we can't talk about warez here, I'll stay away from that subject and get back on topic. Here are some must-haves to get:

- The Mega Man Series
- Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 (1 and 3 kind of suck so stay away from those)
- Ninja Gaiden Series
- Legend of Zelda (not 2 because it sucks)
- Metroid

If you're interested in MMORPGs at all you might try the Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves game if you can find it. I don't know if it was the first to use it, but its inventory menu is *exactly* like what they have in a lot of MMOs now.

The game itself is decent and the plot vaguely follows the movie [remember where Kevin Costner fought the giant pig monster? Yeah me either] but really the big interest is in the inventory menu, as silly as that sounds. Some historical value maybe.

But yes, get anything with Mario, Metroid or Zelda in the title and definitely grab River City Ransom. Play with two people and use eachother as weapons. Gooooood times.

The Double Dragon Series always got me. I also liked Battle Toads. Marble Madness was great, so was Tetris and Dr. Mario. There was this very obscure game I remember I wasted sooo much time on.. It was called KLAX. It was a puzzle game and had a few mini games. Pretty cool.

If you can find a copy, E.T.- The Extraterrestrial. (s?)

Supposedly every copy was burned in a huge pit in New Mexico fifteen days after it came out.
