I have a router downstairs with a SINGLE cat5 coming up through the walls to my room. However I have two computers in my room. For months I have been unplugging this cable between my two computers. Is there anyway I can split this so I can get to my LAN from both computers? Running another wire from the router is not an option.

Buy another hub?

Buying a switch is your only real solution here, unless there exists some sort of Y-cable or splitter for ethernet cabling. Even then, that would be impractical. So just buy a switch.

Switch would be the smart way to go, but in fact it IS possible to have two PCs use one network cable.

Someone wrote about it on the xbox-scene forums.

If one of your systems has a second NIC, you can share the connection with the other one. Be aware that it will use NAT, which may make some things such as serving difficult.

I think what Emon is trying to say is:
Buy a switch.

Shouldn't be very expensive nowadays.
