Quality Music Mixing Programs
2007-05-19, 2:17 PM #1
I'm looking for a quality music mixing and audio editing program that fulfills the following requirements:

1) It's free.

2) It has a easy-to-use interface, one that allows multiple tracks simultaneously, with click and dragging ease.

3) It runs on a PC.

Good denizens of Massassi, any suggestions?

Goldwave is pretty good

EDIT: But if you're willing to pay, get Sony Vegas

Does Goldwave allow you to edit "multiple layers?"

It's not a music editor per se, but I find it a good audio recorder/editor in general:

Hope that helps.

Yeah, I tried Audacity, but I could figure out how to... well... drag clips. Which would make editing far easier, frankly.

Hi J-Bob!

Edit - to make my post slightly less useless, I use Cubase, but that isn't free.

I don't think you're going to find much for free.

A friend of mine was using Vegas this morning. He likes it.

I've used Acid Pro before, which seems to describe what you're wanting, but it ain't free.

I've never used Fruity Loops, but it may do what you want too.

Steinberg has a lot of professional editing and composition software. They have budget versions that are actually affordable.

Can't believe you guys haven't discovered this yet.

Made by Justin Frankel, same dude that brought you Winamp.

It's free, and fits on a USB key. It gives Cubase et al. a run for its money.

This, my friend, is a thing of beauty.

Do you know how to extract audio from an Avi file?

I like Goldwave and Audacity, in that order. Sony's Sound Forge is good too.

If there's some kind of internet host where I can host music files, I can show you what I did.

Myspace lets you do this for free.

Yeah, the lack of professional hardware support is just terrible.

Krystal Audio Engine is also pretty nice.
