Drive names?
2007-05-20, 2:56 AM #1
This is a bit of a cross post from a Mac forum I'm starting to post on, but anyways - what drive names do you use for your HDDs?

Here's a selection of mine....

Geoff - old xp laptop's HD
Catherine - my Powerbook HD
ISIS - my current USB stick
Gizmo - my old USB stick (deceased)
The Vault - my 250GB external
Akhbar - Data drive from old XP desktop
Louie - System drive from old XP desktop

I like random.

Local Disk and External

I did have my old home network named though. It was Skynet and all my computers were the different terminator model numbers.

My friend's 2 external harddrives are Itchy and Scratchy. They have a bad relationship - most of the time when you turn Itchy on, Scratchy goes offline.

C:\ - 160 GB - Pantokrator (Almighty)
F:\ - 320 GB - Fidei Defensor (Defender of the Faith)
L:\ - 250 GB (external) - Locus Classicus (A Classic Place)

Yeah, fancy.

We called the desktop at home Tron, but I don't know if it's still called that anymore. I believe it's been reformatted since I moved to Uni.

My laptop's name is Aeria. I liked Aerie's name from Baldur's Gate 2, so I changed the last letter and used it in some other RPGs for character names for a while. When I had to pick a name for my laptop it was the first that came to mind. My USB stick doesn't have a name, though. Now that I think about it, I'd feel weird sticking it into Aeria if it did :P

Hence why you must name it something like FRIDGE FREEZER or THE HOLLYWOOD SIGN.

I shall name the drive on this laptop Andy Rooney, because I'm surprised it's not dead yet.

Vol1 & Vol60. I had to look it up to find out.
Vol60 is a 60GB so that's why, and I don't know why the other is 1.

I just remembered that a guy on my floor has unofficially named his USB stick "Bridget". It's incredibly slow, and every time he's waiting for his computer to find it he shouts "Come the **** on, Bridget!". It's probably hilarious if you've seen the film.

C:\ is actually "G:\C drive", assigned at boot since I have one or two programs where the ****ers hardcoded it in.

How dare you steal my computer's name! :P

Desktop is Hal ditto for his sole internal drive.
External is Tycho
Flash Drive/iPod is Lucy
Laptop is Daedalus ditto for it's sole internal drive.
Xbox 360's drive is Aria
Xbox 360 memory card is Zeke
My softmodded Xbox goes by Weasel.
The unmodded Xbox goes by Durandal.

Yes, I have three Xboxes. I only paid for two, the modded one is on it's last legs and given to me, which is why it's modded. I don't care about it. It'll be going to my girlfriend sometime towards the end of the summer. She wants one, and with a little work, the modded one will serve her just fine.
