Vote/Post your connection type and post your speed.

I have 5mbs fiber optic through Verizon, recently upgraded from terrible 160kbs DSL. I bought the basic plan, the better plans go up to 30mbs in my area.

[edit] If some benevolent mod could make the poll public (I forgot to) that would be great. Also, it would be good if a T1 option could be added.

Polls can't be made public, so gg noob.

The test wasn't long enough to get accurate numbers. On the NY server, the download peaked at over 20 MBps, and the upload at 1.5 Mbps. The upload here is capped per connection, though.

In real world tests I have peaked at around 15 MB/sec over the internet. That's 120 Mbps, which is higher than the supposed 100 Mbps limit of our network hardware. :awesome:

Cable, 10 Mbps down, 640 Kbps up. My ISP offers up to 16 Mbps down, 1 Mbps up.

5 Mbps over fiber really seems like a waste. Does it cost more than cable?
2007-05-21, 12:32 AM #15
I expect to be billed eventually for hardware installation (verizon sent a guy out to do it; it was a fairly complicated process) but the monthly fee is only $10 dollars more/month than what I was paying for crappy no-frills DSL. Plus, my phone and everything else goes over the same fiber now and generally sounds a LOT better.

(perhaps the pricing has something to do with the fact that the nearest fiber optic main line is only 25 feet from my place)

I didn't feel like paying for faster speeds because I really don't need it and I can't justify the added expense. If I start running servers, then I may reconsider, but for now 5mbs is plenty for me. Since the infrastructure is already in place, upgrading to a higher speed would be trivial. After all, how much bandwidth do you really need?

At work we were supposed to be upgraded to 6Mbit/s DSL last Friday, but for some reason it's still at 768 Kbit/s. :(

2/2 DSL. Has been very accurately that every time I've tested it, so I don't bother anymore (no nice surprises, that is)...

I'm about to go too a 10Mb down 1Mb up connection. I really would like more up than, that, but it's better than I have now. Besides I really should just get a TV tuner. :ninja:

Time for new internet! If only Verizon FiOS was in Arizona...

This is much improved from the last time we had this thread. It was advertised as 3mbps cable when I started service last August, but I guess Mediacom has made some improvements. Last time we had this thread, my numbers were half of what I got this time. No complaints here.

Other.

My friends and I have a 2 mile long tube that's about 5 feet in diameter connecting our houses. We both share a pet monkey. We give the monkey the message and he runs 2 miles to give it to the other person. We feel this will catch on in years to come, saving people up to 12$ on their annual internet fees.
