I like the new ones. The older versions are cool, but they needed modernizing for a new film to be successful.

something about boxy/non-flashy giant transforming robots just isn't as appealing. especially for a live-action movie.

Aye, as much as I LOVE the old, there is blatant need for the new. You couldn't show the transformations without significant 'cheating' if the robots looked like they did in the cartoons. In fact it'd look ridiculous.

Live action Optimus looks fine.

Ill agree that the old optimus needed revising but I think what they got looks pretty bad.
Honeslty, he looks fragile. And are those flames on there?

The new Optimus is WAY too complicated. All of that extra mess is just overkill. On the other hand, with all of those nooks and crannies he'd make a perfect artificial reef at the bottom of the ocean.
