98SE freezes

ok some of you might remember i had this really old computer i was fixing up for my sister... it isnt much but all it will be used for is microsoft office and the internet since shes working now. its an old IBM Aptiva i added a USB PCI card to it so she could use a flash drive or what ever to save her work but since ive added it ive been having a problem. it kept asking for files that apparently were on the 98SE disc but i just used a floppy to transfer them from offline... dont know if thats what caused this issue but after that it said i needed to restart. did it and now when it shows the Windows 98 Splash it freezes.

I can boot it up in safe mode but thats pretty much it.... and suggestions besides destroying the machine :suicide:

Nah, I've run it on some *really* old systems.

What are the specs?

Again?

Try reinstalling the OS completely. Win98SE never gave me any problems, but whatever problems that were severe were solved by just reinstalling.

It's ESC. Just hit it at anytime (before it freezes obviously) and it'll get rid of the splash.

It doesn't always show you anything useful though.

I hit ESC but nothing happened...

I think it is the USB card too, is there a way i can "reinstall" it in like safe mode or something... instead of redoing the OS, it was a ***** to install due to the fact that it had on board graphics and the drivers are impossible to find :suicide:

system specs....

Pentium I 166 mhz? not sure what it is
Onboard SiS graphics 6000 something 24 bit 800x600
32 m.b. of ram
8 g.b. hard drive

like i said it isnt anything special just something to use for Word and Internet
