Paul Potts singing opera on Britian's Got Talent
2007-06-12, 8:12 PM #1
This is amazing. It's a mobile phone salesmen with an amazing voice singing opera and wowing the judges on Britain's Got Talent. Take note of the judge's faces. It looks like Simon **** a brick, at least once, and Amanda must have had three orgasms by the end of his act. And she cried.

Edit: His semi-final act is awesome too:

Simon was probably thinking, "Next American idol = British idol" Seriously though, that was amazing, how is he not a rich opera singer?

Haha... pretty neat.

[http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/1/1f/Pol%3Dpot.jpg] OK, that was a little confusing for a second.

Good choice for what to sing too.

I wouldn't have thought to define her reaction that way but I think it is most accurate.

And yeah, that guy's amazing.
I first saw the vid on another forum and that guy didn't give the description you did and I went in thinking it was going to be just another "this guys sucks really bad but thinks he's good" thing.
I was happy to be supprised.

Nessun Dorma is freaking amazing when sung by the few who can do it justice, and bloody hell that guy does it justice.

Amazing.

I was disappointed to learn that this man has been training professionally for some time.

Wait, you lot have seen this before? Hell, I've not seen it!

I take it it's like Pop/American Idol only you can do whatever you want?
nope.

Pretty much. Except the judges are a lot more discerning, many great acts have gotten the axe, and they sometimes base their judgments on fan reaction.

The US version has Sharon Osborne claiming everything is awesome.

And Hasselhoff, who's too whacked out on coke to do anything valuable.

That was pretty good. He's no Pavoratti, but still pretty damn good.

Hell, even Pavarotti's no Pavoratti.

I watched the clip and actually cried, I don't know if it's because he was so good (which he was) or because it was made to be so emotional.
Looks like we're not going down after all, so nevermind.

No matter what happens to that guy, he's going to have a future in recording. My god, who the hell would have expected that?

True, but Pavoratti is one of the greatest opera singers in the world. This guy is a cell phone salesman.

I thought the guy had an incredible voice (completely unexpected), but I also agree with Rob. Although having said that, I haven't watched the show, so maybe most of the entrants come from a similar background?

Heh, it was funny watching the change in the judges' faces. "Oh...opera. This should be funny" to "HOLYCRAPOPERA"

And watching it again, I don't think Amanda Holden has any choice other than to look surprised :P

He would have had to be. It takes a lot of talent and training to be able to sing like that.

not quite sure what you mean by this. Simon Cowell was doing Pop Idol in the UK before the franchise spread to America and everywhere else

Maybe not, but consider that Pavarotti has many years of training and experience. Also be careful not to idolize him. That whole "Mona Lisa" phenomenon.

also, why didn't he just go on Operatunity when that was on?

Yeah Obi, Maeve's right, we had the show 2 years before you, and popstars before that.

[Oh well, it gave us Girls Aloud I guess.]
nope.

In case you guys haven't seen it, there's also a "high quality" version that's a bit longer and shows more of the judges' reactions afterwards.

He wasn't perfect (bobbled a few notes here and there), but was still amazing.

That was a pretty emotional edit job - I teared up.

Reminds me of the movie Rigaletto [sp]. Lots of similarly fantastic singing in that movie.

Hey,

This guy has some serious talent, even if he doesn't win i don't think he will be working for Carphone Warehouse again.

Take a look at this cool website i found:

do you read Ant & Dec left-to-right onscreen?

I never know which is which, I always assume its Ant on the left and Dec on the right, like a book, but two geordie chipmunks instead of words and paragraphs.
