The serverbeach datacenter at Virginia was hit by a major hailstorm.
It seems now that the backup power solutions in place (generators) failed, and so the UPSes on the servers were forced to power down the servers. The network then went down.
Power has obviously been restored, and I'm still waiting for answers on why the backup power failed.
UPDATE: Seems the generators themselves were actually functioning fine, and the servers are actually being powered by said generators right now. Electrical engineers are currently in the datacenter trying to find out why power was lost.
Summary: mb is fat and crushed the server.
