I hate to admit it, but nVidia may have won me over with the 6800GT. 400 dollars, 16 pipes, and with a bit of overclocking just as good as the Ultra, it looks like it may be my next card. AND it outperforms the X800 XT on the new games. If anyone has a site on which I can find the X800 XT for 460 or less (that's IN STOCK or at least will be within a week or so) then feel free to tell me, but otherwise, the GT seems to be my best bet.

To make this official--HardOCP has some information on the benchmarking of Doom III and whatnot. Fun stuff.

I know you're laughing your arse off--but it's only because the X800 at CDW is out of stock. I'm looking to find a place where it's IN stock. Otherwise there's a few places where the GT's in stock, so I'll get it there. And if you're going to say "be patient", the next time anyone gets an X800 XT in to sell is in 2 friggin months. 60 days. Sorry, can't wait THAT long.

That is not proof, just a very very poor choice, by someone that knows better [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]

Not really, spec wise the X800 still beats it. I'm just MAYBE getting the 6800GT because it's the same price as the X800 pro, and if it comes down to X800 Pro or 6800GT, the GT is a better buy.

Dont the new nVidia cards require some sort of massive power supply? And lots of free space around your AGP slot.

It's things like that which put me off them.

The Ultra does, the GT doesn't. That's why I considered going GT

This round of the card wars is pretty even.

BTW, the nVidia cards ought to do better in Doom 3 since it was developed to work with the Doom 3 engine.

Because they code for OGL performance. They've ALWAYS done that, since they started coding for OGL period. That's just how id works. It's not their fault ATi OGL implementation sucks.

Yeah all the new nVidia cards need like a 400 watt power supply, they're friggin JUMBO shrimp style.

I'm not a fanboy--if I were a fanboy I wouldn't be considering getting this card would I? I'm just not a fan of nVidia. They seem like they might have changed though.

But the debate between OGL and DX is an age-old one that really can't be resolved. It's all a matter of opinion.

Personally, I think people should look a bit less at the companies and a bit more at the individual cards.

ATi are still playing at texture-fiddling.

I don't think all that much of nvidia, but ATi set out to rort the benchmarking system and would still do it given half a chance.

ATi USED to make better cards, because all games were DX# based, and ATi had better DX implementation. Looks like the tides have turned though.

I'm not a fanboy, never was. I just think that the previous generation of cards was far superior to anything nVidia had to offer for any reason whatsoever. Just so happens I was right.

Also, decision's been made, X800 XT it is.

It'll take some really nice cards for Nvidia to dig it self out of the FX-5--- generation hole. It look like they may be doing it.
