T-Shirt making

Does anyone here make their own t-shirts? I've been reading some tutorials about DIY screen printing and really want to try it.

Here are a couple if anyone is interested:

Genki showed me some stencil revolution stuff ages ago and I'm quite interested. Or at least I think that was the name of the site.
nope.

You can cut pretty decent stencils out of pastic binder dividers, or sticker paper.

Yeah, just found that site:

I prefer the idea of screen printing over stencils. I don't know if I'd have the patience to cut everything out with an x-acto knife, but just painting on glue doesn't seem so bad.

Thanks... I've been wanting to look into this recently.

(I still owe ach $10)

I would make my own shirts if I was good at arty stuff but I'm not.

The first link you posted makes a screen that tends to bleed a bit and make kinda messy prints but it's good if you want to reuse the screen to make a lot of shirts. Cutting out a stencil out of a sturdy material, adhering it somehow (spray adhesive is what I always use), and sponging the paint on (or spraying it on) seems to make the cleanest stencils. You can't reuse the stencil though unless you cut it out of acetate.

I bought a good book on this from amazon.com, it's called How to Print T-Shirts. Never got around to actually doing it, though. It seems to explain all the popular options, their strengths and weaknesses, and how to do each of them.

I just buy this special paper, print whatever I want with a normal printer on it and iron it onto the t-shirt.
Good for awesome birthday presents.
Sorry for the lousy German

I've made about 10 or so, but not in like 8 months

Stencils are exxxtreeemeely easy
honestly, its :
1. Find image and supplies
2. cut out image into plastic sheet/wax paper
3. place stencil between shirt and paint
4. ???
5. Profit!

I haven't made shirts in a while... but when I did, I used iron-ons... hated 'em
I can't wait for the day schools get the money they need, and the military has to hold bake sales to afford bombs.

Yeah, Iron ons tend to rip and crease with wear and wash. They usually last about 3 months, longer if you don't wear the shirt often.

I put the Buddy Christ on a shirt a few years ago and it looked awesome... looks like crap now :/

dude.. screw that... just open an account at www.cafepress.com.. design a shirt, and buy it.. it's professionally done.. it don't cost anything to design one, they will just charge you $18.99 for a shirt (if it's dark w/ print) the best part is, you can just leave your shirt up on the site forever.. for free.. and if anyone EVER buys one, they send you money for it (depending on how much you set the mark up for) nott too bad of an idea.. got nothin to lose

Cafepress gives limited options when it comes to printing (I like shirts with designs on the sides/arms, and is way more expensive than DIY shirts. I guess if you designed something great and a lot of people bought it it would drive the price down, but I don't think that's the way I want to go.

Ach - Have you used stencils for images that have islands of negative space? How is that handled, tape?

I use Photo Emulsion and screen printing ink.

The results are alot better, look more professional, and it makes layering an image alot easier.

It is however, alot more expensive.
