Hate to tell you this, but it looks like you've got some sort of groth on your back in that pic.

...

But really, nice image. Who made it?

Not just a Harry Potter pic. but a desktop of an obscure harry potter character. You must be a fangirl.

I have a new desk in a new room, but the desktop image is still the same. The hat was unintentional until my boyfriend pointed out how silly (by which he meant awesome, obviously!) my computer looked...thus, the picture.

Also, the icons are no longer there...save for that recycle bin in the corner. And the bar is blue, not silver. (Actually, I recently got a new computer...but the monitor and the background are the same.)

I'm suprised how many of us use Vista..

It's an old pic from when I first installed, but can XP do THAT? Silly massassians. Vista Aeros > XP.
Everything else in XP > Vista.

Nah, I know plenty of mac haters, you've just gotta look in the right place (aka not in the CCAD computer labs)

XP can't, but Beryl can do something very similar and a few things that Aero probably can't do.

Beryl? that's so old ;) Compiz-Fusion!

You probably mean the ring-switcher. I bet someone could rewrite that plugin easily to look like this thing in Vista. But we cloned expose, and that's much better anyway ^^

After seeing your screenshot, Matyy, I tried Compiz-Fusion, but Beryl seems snappier.
I also really miss input-enabled zoom and being able to move the cube by middle-clicking on the desktop. :(
Sorry for the lousy German

The Busey desktop frightens me to my very soul every time I scroll down this page.
2007-06-28, 9:42 AM #63
hm, impi, too me Compiz-Fusion seems more stable and fast. Input-enabled zoom - yeah... but I never really used it. There is "zoom to selection" now, that's more handy, I think (and you can hide your mouse cursor, I always hated that you couldn't do that with input enabled zoom). The cube plugin misses some things, like middle click, but that's not really that important too me, I miss "keep desktop planar" and this option that sticky windows didn't rotate with the cube but stick to the screen.

And beryl is discontinued...

edit: oh and that Expo plugin rocks ^^

Just installed compiz-fusion over beryl. I love the new plugins and the stability that it seems to have over the beryl nightlys. I must say, it's snappier, but since it's using OpenGL, some other applications aren't rendering right. For example, Mplayer. I tried other video output modes, but none of them worked right.

*cough* That's matyy. I'm matty. :argh:
2007-06-28, 11:32 AM #67
Matty, that will never change ^^

mplayer is just a bit slow for me, and only sometimes. Neverwinter Nights and Open Arena (Q3A) run smoothly. But that are some quite old games ^^ I have a AMD64 3000+, 2gigs Ram and a Geforce FX5900 128mb, and even Stalker ran almost playable with wine while beryl was activated. ^^
